  1. I just purchased the mpeg-2 svcd encoder for nero express, and created my first SVCD onto a memorex picture cd-r. I stuck the cd into my pioneer dv-333 dvd player, and am not getting a picture. I have successfully viewed vcd's on the same dvd player. What am I doing wrong? It sounds like the dvd player is reading the cd. The player is displaying pbc playback, or something along those lines. Advice, please!

    Thank you

That model of player should work for SVCD's. A few thoughts: Will it play on the computer or do you have a DVD-ROM on the computer to try it on? Is this a photo CD format or did I just read that wrong? You might download a demo SVCD file and burn it to see if it would play. Also the media may not be compatable with your player. Check the header on the right side of this website under 'SVCD' for a sample file and other information.

  3. Unfortunately, I don't have a DVD-ROM in my computer. I checked the compatibility section to see if the pioneer dv-333 would play SVCD's, and it was compatible...

I would still try the 'sample' SVCD file. It's about 7 megs. If that doesn't work, we would need to know more details about your setup.

    Hey there nerie,
Try burning the mpeg2 as a non-standard VCD (not SVCD) and see if that works..my DVD player doesn't support SVCDs, but using this method I can get it to work - so it may help with the playback of yours too.
    Good luck,
I only dream in black & white...

  6. Ok, let me make a few clarifications:

First, if I look in the operating instructions that came with my dv-333, on page 4, it lists the supported media formats:

DVD video- digital audio and video, MPEG-2
Video CD- digital audio and video, MPEG-1

It says in the DVD player compatibility section on this site that the player supports SVCD. On the SVCD "what is" section here, it states that SVCD utilizes MPEG-2 video, and VCD uses MPEG-1 playback... I am getting confused here...

Also, I don't have the full version of nero. I have nero express, version 5.5.9.15. I recently purchased the e-mail version of the MPEG-2 SVCD encoder. I have also tried burning on 2 different types of disks, and also, with menu's and without.

What if you author your SVCD with VCDEasy? I always doubt a process where Nero is included as anything besides burning...
