There are signal processing compromises made when mixing
RGB into one signal. If video starts as RGB , it will degrade if
it is converted aywhere in the signal path. Broadcast is already
ruined. No point there. DVD video may be improved. Dunno -
Component is not RGB , though both MAY be three wires (RGB can be 3 , 4 or 5 wires) , (.Component can be 2 or 3 wires and there is several types of Component) .
true RGB is higher quality than Component"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
When you use s-video or composite video connections, the colors are broken up into their luminance and chrominance parts. This may lead to bleeding of the colors onto each other (I've noticed this on Finding Nemo where it always seems that there is a red aura or cloud around Nemo in the blue ocean.) With component video, this color bleeding is not supposed to happen, or at least to a much lesser extent. Your question just made me realize what I've seen with Nemo, so I can't confirm if it dissappears with component video. I'll do some testing tonight.
Just try it if you TV/DVD have the connections. You can just use any cable you have with the proper connectors. I've used audio cables before and it worked. -
OK, thx for the help.
One last (I hope) Question: Is it any better to use S-Video than RCA?, would it compare with RGB or not?Is it just my case ... or all wifes hate computers? -
s-video is a standard and rca is a connector type ..
rca connectors can be used for all types of video connections - though rare for s-video"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Hi,
I have a question. My dvd video plays on the toshiba sd21900 but not on the Philips dvdr75 or sampo players. It is NTSC and I thought all NTSC dvd video disk should play on all us players.
thanks -

Liocraft,
S-Video is generally sent through a 4 pin connector (looks like a mouse PS/2 connector), whereas composite is usually using a RCA connector. They carry the same signals, but some signals are combined (not sure which) on the same wire for RCA (only 2 wires available), hence the name "composite". You can actually buy a S-video to composite adapter which is just a cable with the 2 types of connectors properly wired.
In order or quality, it goes like this, from highest to lowest: RBG (like the 15-pin D-SUB on your computer), component, S-video, composite. -
I have a Norcent dvd w_component out, and a Panasonic w_component inputs. Problem is that video is unwatchable if I use component video (audio ok). panasonic can accept only 480 lines in, and i do not know what the lines output is from the Norcent, but I assume it is the least (480). anyone having similar problem with component video, and is there a solution. meantime using s-video. thanks to all.

Svideo is separate Luma and Chroma. Composite is both modulated together. This cannot be done without active circuitry , hence
Svideo to Composite cables don't exist -
you maybe have a Norcent DP315 ? its component-video outputs only output progressive (24p) , does your panasonic accept 480p(24) ?
or only 480i ?"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
i have an lg 5620 home theatre,a 42" toshiba rear proj tv,with progressive scan and compnent input, and would say,the picture quality when the dvd player is connected to the rear components,is better IMO,than RGB scart.
and i think the input on that is 480p.
cant find my manual though, but im sure it is.
for viewers in the US,component is better than svhs, composite, etc.
as for european viewers,RGB scart and component inputs are quite similar, but the progressive scan improves the component picture better.
