Thayne,
You're a real prick!
You know some one is going to damn well try this.
You should at least put a disclaimer on your post that DVDRHelp is not responsible.
Meanwhile, I got an old 540 meg upstairs that needs a good defrag. Have to give it a try.
Cheers,
George -
Defraggling huh?
"Dance your cares away, worries for another day,
Let the music play, down in Defraggle Rock"
Seriously though, its kinda mean not to put a warning that this is a satire site. Someone here is going to try this because they are not experienced with computers.
And couldn't they come up with a name better than "Electric one-eyed nerd device" for the arm and head of the drive?"A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct."

Those Swedes have a wacky sense of humor.
I liked "change graphic card":http://www.datadocktorn.nu/us_kortbyte1.php -

Funny stuff....on a serious note though..HD's do have the 1's and 0's scattered across them and even a FULL FORMAT won't fix that issue. You'll have to do a "LOW LEVEL" format to accomplish this.
I know Maxtor has software called "POWER MAX" which will write 1's and 0's back to the drive so it will be just like it came from the factory.
I used to think simply formatting the drive with "MAXBLAST" or even better..."FDISK" would get the drive fresh..but it won't....every six months or so a nice low level format with a ghost back up works wonders to the registry and everything else.

That was pretty funny. I have to hide that from my dad, or he's bound to defraggle his data drive.

I only saw 2 steps
How do I finish the procedure. I got the lid off
, but lacking any more instruction I'm stuck! HELPHELP!
Damn!
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they? -

OH MY GOD, this procedure has a major flaw.!!!
Between steps 13 and 14, they forgot to re-install the electric-one-eyed-nerd!
It is no wonder people are having problems!
How many here remember the old days (early 70's) when we had huge disk platters and one-eyed-nerd crashes occurred all the time?Just what is this reality thing anyway? -
Craig,
Aren't those smilies enough to show I was kidding. Maybe I should have placed them up a little closer to the first line.
I hope Thayne doesn't think I was being a prick.
George
BTW, I'm having trouble defraggling that 540, have to go back to the site for a closer look. -

The reading-nerd device sometimes becomes dirty, mainly due to junk mail and infections (viruses).

The temp guage is nice too! You can see if it over heats. If you notice it runs kinda warm all you have to do is weld a couple of heat sinks to the top where it feels the hottest
I found the best heat sinks are 45 pound iron olympic barbell plates. Makes your datamachine more stable too cause your leaf blower can't blow it off the desk anymore when you are blowing the dust out of it!
