  1. I've used DVD X COPY XPRESS to copy a few DVD's onto DVD-R's ... When I try to make another copy from my DVD-R Copy DVD X COPY XPRESS won't let me do it. When I try to use DVD Shrink I click "Open Disc" Than I select the drive that the DVD-R is in and it when I click "Open" it gives me this error "DVD Shrink Encountered an Error and cannot Continue .. The Error is .. Failed to Open File ... The Reason Is ... The System cannot find the file specified"

    Thanks

  3. Just "explore" the disc and copy the files to your harddrive as you would any other files from a dvd/cd-rom. Ripping files from a dvdr is hit or miss. At least, that has been my experience.

  4. OK ... well I have a "VIDEO_TS" and "AUDIO_TS" Folder .. Also an "archive.txt" ... Now how to I go about burning them? Can I just use nero like I normally do after a dvd is ripped and Drag both folders and that file over rather than just dragging the "VIDEO_TS" folder like I do with a ripped DVD?

    Thanks

  5. The easiest way to copy a DVD5 to DVDR or a DVDR to DVDR is to make an ISO image with DVD Decrypter and write that ISO image with DVD Decrypter. I cant explain it other way.

    F1118,

Tompika has told you everything you need to know to do what you are asking.

Just use Decrypter, Mode>ISO>read, to rip it, when it's done, Decrypter, Mode>ISO>write to burn it. And you can burn as many copies as you want.

  11. I/O Error
Device "DRIVE THAT THE DVD IS IN"
    Scsi Status: 0*02
    Interpretation: Check Condition

Theres some other stuff on there also but its long strings of numbers. I'll download a screen capture program so I can post it ... But it looks to me like its telling me the condition of my DVD is not good enough ... It's brand new though ... Just burnt it the other day and it does not have a scratch on it.

    Thanks

  15. It sure is taking longer in my dvd-rw drive to rip ... it got to 94 percent in about five minutes with my dvd-rom drive but it looks like its going to take about twenty minutes to rip it in my dvd-rw drive ...

  16. You can also try to set "Ignore read errors" or run a software dvd player in the background before launching Decrypter and leave the playback on pause during ripping

  17. Ok ... it gave me a read error using my second drive ... so I enabled the "IGNORE READ ERRORS" and am running it again ...

  19. Hmmm, I don't do much ripping myself but I think your having more trouble than you realy should from a DVD r?

Are you sure the disk does not have problems? Look very closely for damage!! Outer edge espesailly!

I just made a brand new DVD -r the other night. Took it to a friends house for a party and this was the first time I ever had a disk failure like this! Kinda embarassing since everyone at the party was in the movie and wanted to see it!!

First we inserted the disk and the player would not read it! Play station?
Rats I thought! Not compatible? Well he tried a couple times and the play station played the disk. Ok Great! About 15 minutes till the end it jumped skipped and totally locked! Grrr.... I thought dam my first bad disk!
Luckily I had the master tapes with me and the camcorder so we watched those!
Yesterday I tried the disk in my DVD player to see if it was just his play station that failed. MY DVD player now will not even start the disk! Disk Error or No Data message!
So geuss what, after looking at the outer edge of the brand new disk, it has wear marks from rubbing in the play station
One playing destroyed my new disk! No problem since I was making everyone thier own copy, I still had all the files on the system

Only a $1 disk, and looking at the bright side, now I can try and see if I can buff out a DVD R disk and repair damaged ones

These were not scratches that trashed the disk, just some dull wear spots, sort of hazed or cloudy looking, not glossy and clear. To see em all you have to hold the disk just right in the light even, though some are more visable than others.
I was actually rather surprised this little bit of damage trashed the disk! Gonna try it in the PC and see if it reads there before trying to buff it, haven't done that yet.

  21. Well with the read errors off it got to 66 percent and than the read rate went down to 0.0x and at the bottom in the log it says "End of User Area Encountered on this Track" and the read errors just keep going and going .. its up to 10,000 read errors and about 170,000 Retries ... and its been doing this since it got to 66 percent. Its been going for twenty minutes and says it has another 10-20 hours remaining.

  22. Well they play just fine in a software dvd player and also play fine in stand alone dvd players ... The connection between all the dvd-r's that I have tried is they have all been copied with DVD X COPY XPRESS and I just wonder if that has anything to do with it ...

Does the DVD-R that you are trying to back up play alright in your stand alone? Basically does the DVD-R work properly when playing the movie?

If it does then I would use Decrypter to rip in file mode and watch it closely as it gets to where it usually gives you the error. On the left pane while Decrypter is ripping in file mode it tells you what file is being ripped. If the file that is giving you the error is anything other than a VOB file then just don't rip that file. I mean if it is a IFO or BUP or TXT file or something. If it is an IFO or BUP then you can re-make those with IFOedit no problem. If it happens to be a VOB file then you might be in trouble depending on whether the VOB is part of the main movie or not and if it is a vital piece of extra material that you want to keep. Either way you will need to re-make the IFO and BUP files for that chapter set if you have to leave out a VOB file.

My last question is how big was the file when you burnt it the first time? Was it right at the edge of max size to fit on a DVD-R? Any scratches or damage to a disc are very difficult to detect on the edges of the disc.

Didn't you say you had 2 DVD drives, a reader and a burner? What software came with your burner? Why don't you see if it has a direct DVD to DVD copy utility.

  27. The PC came with roxio ... and it has a "disc copier" program with it that will make an exact copy but I was not sure it that would work with dvds or only cd-r's ....

I'm quite perplexed with your situation. I've never ran across this problem. It might have something to do with DVD x Copy express...I don't know.

My method in my second post about not ripping that file will work but what the problem is has me thinking....that's $4.00 (see below) lol.

However, I wouldn't trust Roxio to burn a DVD...but you can try, what's one more coaster.

  30. To eliminate hardware or software problems get a retail DVD5 DVD and try to rip with DVDdecrypter and if it burns a copy OK then it would appear your DVD's that were made with DVD Xcopy Express are the culprit!

Just burn the DVD5 with DVDdecrypter in ISO mode then use DVDdecrypter to also burn the new DVD-R.
