I'm replacing my Pioneer 104 and would like your opinions. Which has most media compatibility and most trouble-free.

If I were in the market for one I would be looking at the Pioneer or the Sony (which you don't have listed). I would probrably choose the Pioneer.
-
I agree with Craig go with the pioneer I have the latest Sony which I think is really good.
-
Sony is very nice, I have 2.
Be sure to look at what kind of guarantee you get too. -
The Optorite has been working good for me. Plus it has that slick HD-Burn feature (I just burned 1.3Gb to a CD-R last night) Werd!

Optorite **
Consider the advantages of being an Optorite DD0203 owner.
1) Competitively priced,
2) Loaded with features,
3) Decent software included,
4) The joy of knowing you'll be mercilessly flamed for buying something that many others cannot get to work right and would rather blame the recorder than their own stupidity.
5) The joy of knowing you'll be mercilessly bashed because you CAN make the drive do EVERYTHING it claims to do while certain other members, who incidentally can't count their testicles twice and get the same answer, still insist that the drive sucks anyway.
.indolikaa.
A satisfied owner of two Optorite DD0203 drives.
** DISCLAIMER: This drive can be picky when it comes to media, especially with the HD-Burn option. Cheap, Taiwanese/Indonesian discs need not apply. -

If your getting an external drive, try the TDK Indi DVD USB2/FireWire. i've heard a few good things about it, also try checking this site http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/products/story/0,24330,3509477,00.html

I have the NEC 1300 and I have to say I am very pleased with it. IT burns both plus and minus and has rewritable capabilities all for £99!!
What more could you want
I got it from NovaTech in case you wanted to know:

Thanks for all the responses. I went with the Pioneer. Could'nt be happier. Works well with all the current media I have on hand and works great with the 4x media I purchased.
