I am trying to captuer and put on dvd some old tapes i have of some hockey games ( red wings championship years ). The tapes are not in the greatest shape. I am not expecting to improve the quialty but i would like to keep at least the same quialty. I have a ATI AIW 128 PRO. I have been looking at a bunch of the guides and have used them the best i could. I am running Mutimedia Center 7.1. For some reason my t.v. tuner won't work with any other version. When i captuer the quialty is degraded pretty bad. Can anyone give me any suggestions on how to at lest keep the same quialty with what i have to work with? any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  2. do you know what codec you are using to capture your video? your choice can greatly affect video capture quality...

i would suggest using huffyuv if you want the greatest possible quailty...but looking at your profile you don't have too much hard drive space....

I was trying to capture directly to mpeg2. I was going to try using huffyuv next. I have aobut 14 gig free to work with. Acording to MMC 7.1 that is only enough space for 11 min of video. Can that be right?

  4. yeah, huffyuv uses tons of space

i would try a codec called picvideo mjpeg...that's the one i use most often....very good quality considering it compresses a great deal too

Get Canopus ADVC-100 and use that to capture your videos to the hard drive. Then convert the files to DVD Format. Once in the DVD format you can setup the DVD however you want.
