Didn't know where to post this but.....Just a general observation.
The OTHER/computer forum was created (and I agreed) to assist with computer items as many relate to the overall topics in DVDRHELP. Burning disks, capturing video, rendering, tools, etc.
I even volunteered to help out as this is a topic I have some expertise in and have helped in the past on the DELL community forums.
I was out of town for a few days on business and I look today to see if I could help in the computer forum. Sadly, in my opinion, the board is full of problems with computers totally UNRELATED to this site. Wordperfect ? PSU temperatures ? What happened to my TAB on Mickeys Software Trap ?
I think this is too much. There are thousands of PC help boards. I want to be able to assist with FIREWIRE, what systems are good for video rendering, hard drive concerns as relating to capture, situation like that. If I have to wade through GENERAL computer items to see if there is a related topic to help with, then it defeats what we all said we wanted.
I am not try to be restrictive. If the questions were
Can I use Wordpefect to make DVD menus
Is the xyz temp too high when rendering ?
When I installed Mickeys software, the general tab on Adobe Premier would no not work
THEN I could see it as related.
Anyone else think the forum is overkill ? If not I'll shut up. Not my board.

No you are correct in your observation.
Buy , hey , you don't have to answer them.
I have since given up on the more idiotic questions and try to help the true newbies (as opposed to the lazy SOB's who cannot be bothered to read a guide).

Off topic means just off topic....not on topic. Everyting regarding video should be posted in our video forums (Burning disks(video then), capturing video).
And please post feedback in our feedback forum. (I'm moving this topic) -
Well, its true many of the questions are not video related, but I have to come out in defense of the forum. It was placed in the Other section for a reason. I can't really think of any question video related that could not be placed in one of the other forums. I think the general idea of the computer section was to take all the computer related threads out of the off topic forum, not to remove posts from the on topic area. It also says in the description "No video related stuff here please."
Also, there is an advantage to asking for help on a board you are familiar with. You get to know some of the more frequent posters and can figure out who are the helpful people and the ones that really know what they are talking about. If you go to a board you don't normally visit, you don't know the good posters from the bad."A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct."

Wasn't the computer forum created as kind of another Off Topic forum but specifically relating to computers?
That's been my assumption. -

I agree and I understand...But I just think the topic is to general. The size and complexity of that forum could far outshadow the DVDRHEP forum...
Baldrick, thank you for moving the topic. Was not really sure where to put it.... -

I think it is being used as Baldrick intended. If that changes I am sure he will do something about it.

And if we are going to restrict it, then I guess the whole idea of printers is out too. Even if those hacked printers are hacked to provide for something like printing onto cd/dvd. Choppping holes into the case and hacking the firmware has nothing to do with computers. But if the result saves people money in the long run, is it worthwhile? (imagine a $50 cd printer
)
I think we don't see enough member traffic across the computer forum now. A lot of the posts in capturing could are closer to computer problem than to capture problem. How many times have you told someone to enable DMA on their disks? That seems more computer than say, "I get a hum in the audio, and a bar that rolls up the screen when I capture from my VCR..." good old cable TV-ground loop problem.
Well I for one am glad we have the computer forum. I like it the way it is. Well, except I'd like to see more traffic across that forum. I'd like to see it go back across the front page, with the rest of the important stuff, but I'll live with that descision since it has already been made.Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they? -
Okay Okay ! I concede the point and withdraw the thought...LOL

Oh, and you need to port that linux to a Z80 processor to get it to work... maybe.Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they? -
