I want to back up this movie. Here's what I usually do to burn to a VCD. First I use smartripper, then DVD2AVI, then tmpgenc, and finally nero to burn. I have 12.1 GB total on my computer and I just finished extracting the vob's. The files are SO huge that I only have 1.92 GB's left! If I use DVD2AVI to get the sound and the d2v file, its not going to leave much room for the movie itself. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance to anyone who helps.

The only thing you can really do that i can think of is the obvious. Delete any unwanted or unused files on you hard drive to free up some space.

I did that already...I managed to scrounge around for a last few KB's and deleted any and all unnecessary files. This is my current "theory", please let me know if this will work.

There are a total of 8 vob's...the last one being around 225 mb's. I was thinking, what if I burn that as a data file on a RW(to free up space and then put it back on my hard drive later and empty the RW) and then extract the audio and d2v for lets say the first four vob's, encode and burn that mpg. Then delete the first four and redo the process for the remaining four. Will that work?? If there is any other way(besides buying more memory), please let me know.

Again, Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this.

  4. Buy an additional drive. An 80 GB HD is quite cheap these days...

Stream rip and use only the 192bit soundtrack, that should result in about 6.5GB's,leaving about 5.5GB's to process the files .

  6. when you rip the dvd are you rip[ping everything? if so only rip what you need. video track and audio track.

  7. using smart ripper use the file mode then extract and it will only give you the movie vobs and the sound track, that should be alot smaller than 12 gigs.
