It's pretty easy to change the region. I'm in the US and renting lots of
Region 2 DVD's and I rip them using DVD Shrink and DVD Region Free
and burn them using Nero. DVD Region Free tricks my burner into letting
me change the region. But I still have to use a region-free DVD player
to play it back because of the PAL --> NTSC problem.

So it depends on if you just need to change the region which is pretty
easy or change from NTSC to PAL which is pretty time consuming.

  3. from the looks off the dvd i want to buy, its ntsc (Region 1) and in australia we use Pal (Region 4). i.e. i assume im going to have to convert it to pal? how would i go about doing this? thanks

  4. Most if not all Australian DVD + TV equipment can play back NTSC material just fine. Don't convert to PAL unless you have to.

NTSC doesnt mean Region 1, and PAL doesn't mean Region 2 or 4.
Just remove the region and it will play OK.
Just rip it to your HD with DVDDecrypter and it removes the rerion code automatically.
I've done it hundreds of times.
