My parents just got their basement finished and their anniversary is coming up. My sister and I wanted to chip in and buy them a projector and a screen so that they can put it down there. We want to buy something that they can hook their dvd player upto and watch movies via the projection. So to sum it up, I'm looking for a projector and a screen. The problem is, I dont know where to start. Is there any place on the web I can go to in order to get more info? And also, how much would this cost(approximately). Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

  2. I believe DLP is the extreme high-end in projectors. I'll post a thread with info on it. BJ_Ms the deity when it comes to this.

You could also go over to AVSforums and find some info.

  4. The other day I walked into a Sony Showroom and they had a Sony projector and screen for something like £1200 (or may be £1400). I think the exchange rate is £1 = $1.6xx

But seriously though, why don't you consider a widescreen HDTV instead, considering that you have money to afford the projector.

The reason we dont wanna buy the widescreen is because my dad likes to watch movies in theaters and we want to give him that effect.

Also, I was browsing ebay and found this:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=15079&item=3043843908

Is this a hoax...because it seems too good to be true(even though I have to build it). If anyone has something like this, please tell me how it works. Thanks.

My friend built one of these out of a really old tv he found in the garage.

It's a big waste of time. The edges were all blurry and it didnt look good at all.

Basically what it does is tells you to attach a big magnifying glass to your TV. So the contrast and brightness will be totally off.

    Don't waste your money...
THIS has been an RVL123 production...

Huh! But I thought that the movies u see in threatres are widescreen.

In my opinion, you should consider the cost of the lamps for a projector. These lamps are quite expensive, I believe. If your dad is going to watch movie just now and then, then its ok. However, you might also be tempted to hook up the normal TV/cable and watch everything on the projection. That will wear out the bulbs soon.

In our office, we have two projectors. We change bulbs every five to six months for each projector.

OK. To me it sounds to be too good to be true. My theory is:

    Regards,
    I like that one.

And to back you up, the lamps for projectors are expensive! Typically about 2/3 the price of a new projector. At least from the little bit that I researched them.
