I've been trying to decide which burner to buy for awhile, and now I'm finally getting down to it. I want to get something dual format, is the sony u10a the best way to go? Or is there something else out there that I havent seen?

In my opinion, I would never purchases a dual format DVD Burner, as DVD+R is virtually useless. No professionals use it, no mastering houses use it, and its compatibility is inconsistent. DVD, and its brother DVD-R was invented by the DVD forum, so unless it has the official DVD mark on it, It’s not an official DVD product. Anything with the Psudo-DVD+R logo is just as good as saying its an “X-DVD” media. Its your best guess as to what plays and what will not play those disks (Less the base companies who invented it, and go out of their way to support it).

DVD+R and DVD-R . As long as you purchase quality media they both perform just as well . Buy what YOU want and dont let no one tell you one is better than the other . I have a dual format so I can buy which ever ones on sale .

I could understand why peopple get upset they buy a burner and don't wanna feel like they have made the wrong decision about which one they brought.

Both Coke and Pepsi have nearly identical market share as with DVD/-r+r
there is room for both...I wonder if there is aforum where people fight about which drink infact I will start my own poll

Shandley, What is it you are trying to do with your DVD burner finally?

Just backup data: In this case DVD+RW burner is good enough.

Backup your movie DVD's/home movies: First check compatibility of your standalone DVD player. Check in the 'DVD Player' section at the left side on this website. If your player is compatible with +R as well as -R, then go for the dual mode drive. -R is the standard format for DVD forum. Old DVD players are not capable of playing +R.

Like you, I am going to buy a DVD burner soon. I have pretty much zeroed in on to the dual mode drives - Sony DRU510A or Pioneer A06. I need to have some kitty in the bank first.

The way I see it from the forums is, you can't go wrong with either. At the moment I am slight inclined towards the Pioneer because of the price, but just so.

IMO the best bang for the buck today is the NEC ND-1300a dual format DVD burner which sells for $130 here. http://avlogic.com/product.cgi?code=18030059

Very true. Nec 1300a is a great burner. I have no idea why its so cheap, its a rock solid burner that holds its own against the best
