  8. The flashing program allows you to back-up your old firmware, but i'm still a bit nervous about hacking my brand new NEC.

Since the 1300a only burns at 4x, supporting G08 is a non-issue, no?

  10. I am getting an illegal media meassage using Bulkpaq 4x, I have downloaded the firmware but do not know how to flash it and also how do revert back to the original if I have problems?

  11. make a dos bootdisk boot your computer in dos while in dos just read the instruction in the flash file included. make sure you backup your original. make sure you are in real dos mode.

  13. Sorry if I appear clueless ( but I am ) are there any good descriptions of the process of re-flashing your dvd writer as I am a bit unsure o how to do it?

  14. open the flash file and print hte instruction inside that file, unzip the the flash files to a bootable flopie disk raed and follow the instructions that came with it is pretty much step by step if you don't know get somebody with expirience on this flashing thing or you will damamge your drive. everything has to be in real dos mode.

  19. hi out there , is it possible for a pc dumbo like myself to use that firmware upgrade for the nec 1300a ? and is it so that before using it a person would have a lot of blank dvds not being recognised/burnable on this dvd writer ? of 3 batches tried only one lot have worked fine no problem they were all +`s . cheers eric

  20. I have to agree that the 1300A with Herrie's hacked firmware is a great burner. Hell, it rips at an average of 12x in DVD Decrypter with any DVD-5 i stick in it, it does 9 at about 10x average. I'm using some 2x and 4x Princos, burn images in DVD Decrypter and burn DVD Video/Audio_TS in Discjuggler, and this thing does me right every time. I watch all of my backup copies and haven't noticed one issue YET.

If you're making "backup copies" why do you go apecrazy over the media you use? :P

  21. well some rather techy talk for me to get a grip on in parts there i am just an average joe fumbling along and trying to find a basic way to get up and go with this nec 1300a , i guess all i am about is just wanting to go in a shop and buy the most economically priced blanks i can and just use them without hassles , like i do with my cd burner , obviously i have had to face a reality check on the dvd writer world not yet being as ABC as that .. i just had before buying the nec 1300a the idea sold to me that as an all formats machine it would handle basically all media +/- thrown at it no problem . even as a untechnical person i am surprised nec do not get somehting better together to support their writers on issues like mine, if you lack an easy aptitude for resolving these kind of things yourself then support of some kind is essential obviously . i am just shooting mails off anywhere i can to collate a pattern of info that makes an easy route to a breakthrough for my problems . i think i am slowly getting there but thanks for the comments always good to know someone is moved to do this . all the best eric

If you go over to the firmware forums and do a search for "Herrie" as the poster's name...look around and see because he was explaining how to get the information off of the unsupported discs with a utility, and he would write a custom firmware upgrade for it. Or he will include it in the next version he writes.

Give it a shot, what do you have to lose.

  26. cheers for the reply yes i managed to contact herrie , and a very helpful and responsive guy he is , a fantastic person to help with the firmware issues ..

Wow! You're braver than I am.

The NEC 1300A is typically an OEM drive. eMachines is using it for their DVD burners maybe more distributers are as well.

Does this new firmware allow it to burn 16x CD-RW media as well? (utlra speed)
    Just curious.
