Hi. I am using the Pioneer 106, I see on the pioneer website there is a new firmware update for the 106 its supposed to help in writing to cheaper disks. Has anybody tried it yet, if so was there any improvment.

  2. Let's try!
I've got a A06 and problems to write Princo DVD-RW.
If we're lucky, that upgrade will solve those problems.

  3. I tried, but I couldn't update. .BAT file said "Error key sense = 5" or a thing like this.
By the way, about what version are you asking?

  4. I just upgraded my A06 on friday. My media i have been using is Verbatim DVD+R 4X. I use Nero 5.5.10.42 and did the speed hack to the registry. I backed up 5 movies soo far and seen a constant 3.5-3.6x speed. Now using the same media and backed up the same movie Die Another Day. I see speeds in Nero of 4.1-4.3x. Ohh Yeah Baby..

I assume you mean what version of fimware, all it said was R6FW106
if thats any help. have a look on the pioneer site for downloads DVd writers, I think that is the only download for the A06 106 at the moment.
Pioneer told me it was to assist with problems writing to cheap disks, but if you don't have any problems then you don't have to use it. Seems a bit vague to me.

I had no problem installing the firmware. Haven't done much testing with it though.

I have not installed the firmware yet, pioneer said it was to help if you were having trouble writing to cheap disks. I have been using the Bulkpaq orange x4, 75p each in the UK and I have not had any problems, so I am a bit wary about the upgrade. Please let me know how you get on with it.

I'm getting the same results as before. Nothing seems to have changed.

BeAll 1x burns at 1x, TDK 2x burns at 2x, and Princo 4x burns at 4x.

    2man,
Did u set the region for the 106? Before i set mine to region 1, movies ripped at 10-15x. Now it only rips at 2-2.1x.

I had problems with my Pioneer 106 and some Discrite 1x -R discs (and also a single Infiniti +RW). Sometimes while writing lead-in or lead-out, the drive would just freeze up, and a reboot was needed to get the DVD out. But the DVD's worked fine anyway.

After I upgraded to 1.06, this problem has gone. Now it works just as it is supposed to.

  15. someone explain this "speed hack" people are describing... is this for the Pioneer 106 (i have this drive) or for Nero?

Also, can you update the firmware for the pioneer 106 while the drve is inside a USB 2.0 external enclosure?

  16. Please help me to solve this problem. I'm very confused. With Pioneer 103 and Princo i had discret success, but now with 106D only with good and expensive DVD-R media i have no freeze DVD video.

    DVD2ONE+Nero+Princo or other cheap media.
