I have VideoStudio 6.02 (update installed)
I'm running XP Home and my drive is NTFS, so I don't have any of the FAT32 limitations.
I am capturing with VirtualDub to avi files without any problem.
2GB, 4gb, 10GB, no problems.
Theses large avi files play fine in Windows Media Player, VirtualDub, ATI MMC File Player, etc.,
But, when I open a file that is larger than 2 GB in Ulead VideoStudio, the video is truncated. I don't get any errors, but the last visible frame is not at the end of the actual file. This only happens with files larger than 2gb, and the last frame than I can see seems like it is near the 2gb "point" in that file.
Is this a limitation of Ulead VideoStudio? Their web site does not address the issue.
Thanks,
shred

Can anyone please just tell me if they are able to open an avi file larger than 2GB in VideoStudio 6
That would help me a lot.
Thank you -
Hi, I have no problems opening a 6Gb file in VideoStudio 6.02 - and saving it back out again. However I can't get VS to PLAY the damn file in XP, the programme just keeps crashing whenever I hit the [play] button!! Although I can step through it with the [frame advance] buttons, once I hit the [play] button the programme crashes!

Not sure if this will help you but mpeg file 3.79 GB (4,079,812,608 bytes) and VS 6.00.0102 works.

I just edited and rendered/saved a 5.5GB MPEG-2 file last night, all went smoothly.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Now at least I know I am not spinning my wheels trying to get these large files to load completely.
The clips I am using were captured using VirtualDub with HuffYUV compression. Also, I am using an ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon7500 with the latest WDM capture drivers.
I will try to capture with UleadVS (with and without huffyuv) and see if I can open those files. -
I tested capturing a 3GB avi file right in VideoStudio, and I WAS able to view the entire file in the preview window, and when added to the timeline.
The only thing I do not like is that I can not specify any compression when capturing an avi file using VideoStudio.
My hard drive has a tough time keeping up with 640x480 uncompressed. I dropped 14 frames in a 10 minute capture. When using Huffyuv, I don't drop any. I don't drop frames when capturing at 480x480 though, so I'll probably just stick with that since my final product will be SVCD (480x480) anyway.
Thanks again. -
I realize this thread seemed to die out a long time ago without any apparent resolution. I'm running into a similar problem and am hoping some more information is available.
I often use Ulead VS 6 (all patches) to capture and edit much of the DV Video. I'll render it in DV2 or convert afterwards so VirtualDub can process it (assuming I need to do some filtering such a noise reduction). I have the Panasonic DV Codec for use by VirtualDub.
The problem then shows up if I load the new file into Ulead. Within Ulead the file information shows the full size (for example 6GB) but the number of frames and length are truncated at 9'51" - about the 2GB mark for the standard DV video and audio. If I've used a different audio compression, the length will be slightly different to correspond to the 2GB mark.
I have lots of work arounds for this outside of Ulead but sometimes Ulead is the easiest to put clips back together or do some additional changes. Essentially, once I have used VD on any clip larger than 2GB, I can no longer import back into Ulead. I should note that the clips will display properly in other applications.
I know Ulead does not have a 2GB limit (cetainly not this version on a w2000 NTFS system). I also know that other applications can play these post VD files okay so...
I'm at a loss to figure out where the problem rests and, more importantly, is there a fix?
Any suggestions on other troubleshooting I can do? -
I see magic word in both posts... "VirtualDub" Couldn't be that source of this problem ? Try to skip that step.

It is not always that easy or desirable. VirtualDub has many uses. I use a number of different tools depending on the aim and the which tool works best for a task. I like both UleadVS and VirtualDub for very different reasons. It is clear that VD (likely in conjuction with the Panasonic DV codec) is causing the problem, but it is only Ulead that seems to have the trouble with the new file as far as I can tell.
I'm hoping I can (with some help) figure out the cause and a fix so I do not have to avoid using one or the other tools together. -
Not recently since I didn't have time to do any editing, but yes... Still
