  1. Hello,

    I made the mistake of posting about the tool before it was done (again) and keep getting emails asking for it - so it's up for download again.

    Not 100% done but much closer then the 0.8.x series

    almost 100% NTSC resolutions figured out - not nearly as close with PAL ... there is no set equation for the way ATI implemented 'Vertical Scaling' and 'Horizontal Scaling' along with 'RtInterval' ... no x+y=z ... TRUST ME!! but cofferscuffs did a great job trying to explain the UNEXPLAINABLE

    Profile Import/Export works
    Macrovision works

    ...for those of you with powerful machines your going to be able to capture amazing stuff - for example using the different variables available you can achieve 480x480 about 8 different ways in NTSC !!! They can't all be equal ?? so the 'perfect' setting is out there for someone to find!

    damn I wish this board had a spell checker

    ok more.... I've done my best to give you full access to ATI's MMC 7.5 registry BUT if you don't want to do endless trial and error I coded a 'Registry Manager' --- it is a helper that keeps you from setting 352x480 manually and getting 352x720 .... in MMC 7.5 world 352x480 is 352x240 with and different 'RtInterval' ... did I lose you? Yep thats why I coded the registry manager --- oh and don't even get me started on the 360 height capture -- holy cow!!!

    Ok if you read this far then I guess go to the link in my sig and get the new tool - if you want to help me do the manual tests for PAL to help finish the tools 'database' send me an email - like I said the NTSC part is about done!

    your pal,

  3. Blah... yes yes, all the unexplainable stuff I attempted to explain in the howto... just updated the howto to Beta9 look for it soon.

  4. Hey Stinky,is your profile import/export the same thing
    as this WMSysPrx.prx file editing I've been screwing around
    with?I still haven't really investigated your tweak tool
    so sorry for the ignorance.I have a shortcut set on my desk
    to this file so I can take my WM profiles that MMC 7.5 uses
    and change everything,any res I want,detail level,bitrate(audio&video),or change WM codec(V1orV2).It's cool as hell!
    You guys should see the quality of a file I can make now
    and still get nearly 2 hrs on a 700 meg cd.Once you're done
    capturing it's ready to slap on a cd.

  5. to be honest I am not familier with WMSysPrx.prx at all --- do you have a link or can you email it to me?

    is it a tool for Windows Media or MMC 7.5 specific?

    my import/export is essentially my own format - I just made it something I can easily work with but I could add support for any format that MMC users find helpful

  6. Stinky I sent you that file if you want to try it.Yes,I'm
    afraid it is Windows Media.That's all this prx file controls,and this particular file I think is just for the
    MMC 7.5.However,if you install the Windows Media Encoder it
    also has prx profiles that are similar to the ones that
    are in MMC.Although both progs both control the WM codecs
    the same way I couldn't figure how to interchange the prx files between progs so I just edited the prx with MMC and
    it worked.I was so happy with myself seeing what an idiot
    I am and all,anyway,if one wants to edit the MMC prx file
    themselves you can just open it up in Wordpad and type away.
    So anyway if you go to the tv setup in Digital vcr/set custom you will see a some Windows Media presets,Lan and
    Local use are what I edited.There may not be anyone else
    that wants them set up like this but me but like I say if
    you have MMC 7.5 then you have the file(in Windows)and it's
    easily etitable.You just scroll through,find the right profile name,first they list the sound codec characteristics
    then under that the video.The video is simple as pie.You
    have bitrate you change in 2 places,1 place you change
    the detail level from 1 to 100(I like 100)and 3 places you
    change the res. easy to see.Also you can change the buffer.On the file I made the(Lan)setup
    I had to do a little more changing because instead of the
    default Windows Media 7 video(v1)I changed the codec to WM8(v2) just to see which looked better.It turns out that I
    like WM7 video better,more detail,WM8 was softer and blurrier.If you do change the audio however you do have to
    change more settings than the bitrate,I just compared to
    any other sound profile that had the bitrate I wanted and changed everything accordingly.So for me I kept both my
    customizations at 400x300 and around 800 Kbps video bitrate
    and audio at 64 Kbps cause it really does sound not GREAT but good enough for me.Anything to save space.So you should
    be able to get about 1 hr 40 to 50 min. to fit on a cd.If anyone else wants my edited version e-mailed just ask.

  7. Hey thats very cool - you found file all the MMC 7.5 Windows Media encoders were looking for - way's to adjust the settings for the various MMC 7.5 Windows Media and custom codec profiles.

    If I had the extra time I could make a GUI for it or add support to my current tool (that is not a promise but just a maybe.....)

    my current tool does not do anything with the Windows Media profiles - it only deals with the MPEG profiles and settings

    thanks for the info!

  9. Stinky, How do I get MMC 7.5 the only ver. ATI shows is Ver.7.1 am I missing something. Also I can make VCD on nero no problem without nero encoding, but no matter what I do nero always wants to encode SVCD is there a setting Iam missing. I use you MMC Reg. tool and it works great for VCDs. Iam using a Radeon AIW. Thanks for any help

  10. I'm not sure where to get MMC 7.5 - it was on website but the link is dead. I think new cards are shipping with MMC 7.5 CD's but ATI hasn't put it online for download yet -- which is too bad because it's a much better program.

    As for the SVCD thing - no one has figured out how to capture MPEG-2 with MMC 7.x and drag it right into Nero yet -- I'm guessing the settings are out there in 7.5 but I haven't found it (and I've tried)

  11. You should hop over to Rage3D and read up on how we been capturing to DivX using the VKI mpeg4 V3 or Low-motion codecs. And the DivX4.xx codec.
    I captured Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon using custom settings and its 618mb and looks great!
    The best thing is..... I been reading about how DVD makers are going start making DVD players that play WMV/mpeg4 should be this year or next
    I will try that trick with that file and edit my WMV settings for MMC.

  12. Just an update on editing the wmsysprx file. After much tweaking I have discovered what most of the settings do. These settings are very effective in making a great capture and the files can be edited with a program called asf tools. So if you have mmc 7.5 and you want to make some really small captures with excellent quality give it a try!

    Stinky will this be in your next registry tool?

    streamnumber="2"
    streamname="Video Stream"
    inputname="Video"
    bitrate="770000" Controls the bitrate of course
    bufferwindow="6000"> increas quality but makes file start up slower
    <videomediaprops maxkeyframespacing="10000000" Same as buffer but increases seek time as you increase it and quality
    quality="0"/> Increases sharpness up to a value of 100
    <wmmediatype subtype="{31564D57-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}"
    determines the type of encoding wmv1 is the best
    bfixedsizesamples="0"
    btemporalcompression="1"
    lsamplesize="0"> These 3 settings are never changed by media encoder so I didn't touch them either. Any ideas?
    <videoinfoheader dwbitrate="770000" Bit rate 2 values must match
    dwbiterrorrate="0" Don't know?
    avgtimeperframe="400000" Similar to buffer and keyframe but it effects quality and it appears to affect frames per second

    I use these settings for a very high quality capture that only uses 367.5 megs for 60 minutes. Here are the audio settings that I use.

    streamnumber="1"
    streamname="Audio Stream"
    inputname="Audio"
    bitrate="48024"
    bufferwindow="-1">
    <wmmediatype subtype="{00000161-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}"
    bfixedsizesamples="1"
    btemporalcompression="0"
    lsamplesize="1115">
    <waveformatex wFormatTag="353"
    nChannels="1"
    nSamplesPerSec="44100"
    nAvgBytesPerSec="6003"
    nBlockAlign="1115"
    wBitsPerSample="16"
    codecdata="008800000F00D9220000"/>

    MMC 7.7 had an svcd profile that I've burnt countless times with Nero with a max bitrate of 2.5 Mb that's played fine on both my standalone dvd players. I now use ver 8.5 unless you have a tv wonder there's no need not to upgrade to at least mmc 8.1.
