After capturing MPEG2 from VHS I noticed wavy lines in the bottom of my screen. How can that be eliminated and edited out?

If you're talking about a thin area at the very bottom that looks similar to interference, that's overscan.

There are lots of threads that deal with the subject. You could search for those. But keep in mind, if you intend to watch the final product (DVD?) on TV, they will be hidden again, like they were in the original videotape.

    Cool Avatar Gees.

Yes, its overscan, but be aware that if you do not edit it out, some DVD players shift the picture, so that you end up seeing this, so I have to mask all my videos.

If you want to edit it out during encoding, use TMPGEnc to crop and also slect "Mask Bottom" to replace the part you have cut out with a black area.

If you want to do it during capture there are settings for this in most good capture programs.

(Be aware that if you crop during capture you can sometimes create an incompliant resolution if it does not cover the cropped area with a black mask. eg. if you capture at 352x288 and have it cropped, you could end up with something like 347x284)

Thank you, Pixel! :c) Just made it today.

You made good points to add to my quick post above.

I have some similar (identical?) symptoms.

There is a horisontal part almost at the bottom which appears to be scrambled. At the bottom the picture is OK.

Is it the same problem and the same cure ?

    thx

  6. If you mean there is a small distortion line, then a slither at the bottom which is OK, the suggestions above will fix it.
