I ripped a DVD copy of a Korean movie via DVDx. I want to make VCD 2.0 from it. The quality is so, so. But I do get the subtitles.

I used Nero Burning to get the files on VCD. They work OK on a computer. But won't play on a stand alone DVD player, which can support VCDs/CD-Rs.

The files were saved as mpg. I've burned them straight. I get sound. But no picture. I've converted them with Nero, as it gave me a notice the files weren't standard. The disk just freezes.

But as I said, both will play in a computer.

I use DVD2SVCD when I convert Korean,Chinese & Japanese Dvd movies that have subtitles. It may take a little longer to convert them to svcd or vcd but the quality is much better. DVD2SVCD is a free program.

If you want you could use DVD Decrypter to rip the Korean dvd movie which does subtitles too. Then use AVI and then Tmpge to encode. Then use NERO or VCD EASY to burn. The how to guides at this site are great to use.

  3. your software dvd player is A LOT more forgiving than a standalone dvd player.

My mother in law has this dvd player and it IS FINICKY(sp). It only played very specific VCD's. Audio had to be 224kb and stuff like that (thank God I am doing DVD's now and not VCD's).

Anyway, you might want to try better media. I dont know/think that will hlpe or hurt the situation, but it is at least one thing to look at.

What are the SPECIFIC specs of the VCD you created? is the VCD 1150bit rate 352x240 44.1mhz audio or has something been tweeked? Did you use a KVCD template

Thanks for your help. I'm a newbie at this video ripping.

I solved the problem by using VCDEasy to burn the files. It encoded the MPEG files created by DVDx. I then burned those encoded files. The created CDs play on my Toshiba SD2800.
