  1. Oh no you say, another tale of woe with Nero not burning a playable DVD. But this is one with a twist. The DVD (miniDVD actually) plays on everything except PowerDVD 4.

    It plays on:

    Stand-alone Sampo DVD player
    WinDVD 4
    Sonic Cineplayer
    Media Player Classic
    Windows Media Player

But it does not play on PowerDVD 4 (otherwise my favorite software player). I get the “disc damaged or dirty” error.

The problem is with the ISO structure that Nero creates, because I get the same results when I burn the image with Nero and mount it on a virtual DVD Rom.

Why do I even mess with Nero (since Img tool classic will create an ISO that plays on all of the above, even and especially PowerDVD 4)? Well, it is so damn easy to drag the files that DVD2One creates and drop them into Nero’s ready and waiting VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders, that’s why.

Anyway, anyone have similar experience with Nero 6?

Did you have these problems with the Nero 5 series or just 6? Have you checked Nero's web page for updates to 6? If you didn't have the problem with the 5 series, go back to it. I use Nero 5.5.10.20 and have no problems playing from PowerDVD. Maybe there is a problem with PowerDVD 4, try an older version.

  3. Thanks for replying.

I didn't have the problem with Nero 5, but with Nero 5, I set it up the old fashion way by choosing UDF/ISO Rom and setting the settings and making my own VIDEO_TS folder. I could still do that with Nero 6.

The nice thing about the MiniDVD setting in Nero is that everything is already set up for you and you just drag the DVD volume files over.

So it's not really a problem but more of a curiosity why PowerDVD is the only thing that will not play them.

I'll probably upgrade to PowerDVD 5 at some point and see if that makes a difference.
