  1. Hi

I have this weird problem and would like to find out if anyone else has observed something similar.

I've tried using Nero to burn a movie on a Princo DVD-RW (opaque white top, silver bottom) with the DVR-105. Nero fails during the verification and complains that it cannot mount the disk. True enough, if I reinsert the DVD-RW into the drive, explorer only sees a disk with no data.

However, if I put the DVD-RW into another DVD-ROM drive, a DVD-105 (note the D instead of R), it reads the disk fine! but only with a nasty recalibration noise while mounting the disk. If I put the DVD-RW into my DVD player, an el-cheapo shinsonic, it also plays the disk fine! But if I put the DVD-RW into my laptop DVD-ROM (toshiba something), it fails to even accept the disk.

    So, my questions are:

    1. has anyone else tried the Princo DVD-RW (1X) on the DVR-105? It's strange that the burner can write to a disk without being able to read it back.
    2. does the DVD-RW work on the DVR-104 instead?
    3. can we expect firmware upgrades similar to the sony to make the DVR-105 a little more robust?

    Thanks

  2. I am also having this problem with Datasafe Media dvd-rw, the A05 writes to the disc but then cant read it.
The disc then plays fine in my standalone dvd player!

  3. So did anyone figure this one out yet?
I have the Pioneer A05 and using Ritek 4x DVD-R discs. I am burning Multi-Session to back up a whole lot of data. The first session contained about 3.6GB of data (consisting of smaller files) and the verification went fine but when I tried to add another 300MB of data it burned and closed the DVD fine but I got a failure for verification saying cannot mount disk. This does not happen when burning multi-session CD-R's just on my DVD-R's. I'm using the DVD-ISO option.

Probably the disk is marginal in quality. While the DVR105 may have a weaked laser and cannot read the just written disk, probably the other 2 devices can barely read it. This might explain the weird recal. noise.
