Hi, I am a newbie and am having probs deciding what is the best DVD recorder to buy for use with my Pioneer DV350 player and Lektropacks CP2 stabiliser that gets rid of Macrovision and CGMS/A for DVD-to-DVD backup purposes.
I was going to get a Philips DVDR880 until I learnt about the terrible reviews that and other Philips DVD recorders have had. Also the way they work like VCRs with linear recording just seems ridiculous.
However, Lektropacks tell me that the CP2 works best with Philips DVD recorders, and doesn't work at all with Panasonic recorders.
So - what would people recommend I do? Should I a) get a recorder that isn't either a Philips or a Panasonic, or b) get a Panasonic, and change the CP2 for something that does work with a Panasonic, e.g. maybe the CAM700?? (www.lektropacks.co.uk). I'm in the UK... Many thanks for any help because I really don't have the knowledge to work out what is best to do, despite having read loads of posts at this site and others.
TIA,
Dave

The other thing is, I don't possess a CD burner and so am not at the moment able to apply hacks that require this method. My basic need is to be able to backup DVDs onto DVDs, and to record onto DVDs from TV broadcasts. Aaargh!
