If you were offered the chance to be a moderator would you take it? Now I'm in no way suggesting we're looking, because we're not, I'm just curious if you would take the positionor not. I'll say now that I'm guessig 90% or higher will say they would.

Well it'd be nice to know i'm having more of an input on the site (given it's my second home and all) but there's a lot of tedious "don't post warez" involved, and someone always ready to jump on your back.
I think if it was to be an -additional- mod, i'd do it. if it was replacing someone, i'd think twice. (That's a disguised way of saying you guys do a good job!) -

If anyone has read any of my posts, you know that I occaisionally take a few friendly jibes at Tgpo. But when he quietly and politely puts up with people like Jeex who whine about a card he justly got weeks or even months ago, I have to take my hat off to Tgpo and the rest of the "Posse". No, I do not think I want a job like yours, The Great Pat O., but I admire the way you and rest of the guys do it.
We only salute certain civilians in my profession (e.g., The President, the vice President, The Secretary of Defense, etc.), but please accept this one from one old warrior, guysHello. -
Thanks a lot Tommyknocker. But as you know, being a mind reader I knew you were gonna post that, but that's a whole other story

Hahaha. It must be very boring going through life knowing what is going to happen next.
Hello. -
No way! I would rather be a stoolie in the feedback section and let the mods all flex their bulging muscles!
Oh, maybe that was sexist. Question? Where are the female mods?Just what is this reality thing anyway? -
What if the female mods had bulging muscles as well?

What's this moderator thing you guys are talking about? Where do I sign up?
No female mods yet, but maybe one day we will. -

If I had the opportunity to be offered a chance to be a moderator i'd say thanks but no thanks. First, the above wouldn't ever happen..lol..but even if it did my views wouldn't change. I think in order to be a moderator you should meet certain criteria. Some of that criteria should be at the LEAST an understanding of each and every one of the forums and it's subjects.
For example, it wouldn't be tough to grap the "NEWBIE" forums after a little while...but that's simply not enough IMHO. I think a mod should also have an understanding of the topics on the advanced conversion boards, as well as the editing and cutting and DVD Authoring boards. Those boards are more "advanced" and I think the mods should be able to come in when necessary and be able to help out when a poster isn't getting an answer for a specific question.
For the most part, all the mods in this forum really know their stuff and then some. Of course, TGPO doesn't know anything about anything except MACS...but hey....the forum needs a Mod for the Mac forum too.
Oh, and another thing...mods should be the ones who really uphold the forum AUP and although every now and then..even a mod can break forum AUP....yes..i've seen it on a "few" occasions....it doesn't happen OFTEN..and nobody is perfect.
But i'm really amazed at how often mods can remain civil when posters just can't get basic facts through their heads. As well as when newbies want to ask for advice, but then tell you "you're wrong" after you give it to them. Only to come back two days later and say...oh...you were right. lmao.....
And then when mods do take action...many of the posters want to flame them with threads or polls...and even then, the mods somehow remain civil for the most part.
With this being said...I honestly believe many simply don't have what it takes to be a moderator...and i'm not ashamed to say that i'm one of those people.
BTW, where's Will Hay...I know he's ready to take on the moderator roll full throttle...maybe he's writing his acceptance speech. :P -
Birdman : "The job... you got the job."
Peanut: "Gee, that's great. Do I get a gun?"
I probably shouldn't be a mod. I'd go crazy with the yellow cards, and then someone would accuse me of being part of the Old Boy's Network, except that I really would be part of the Old Boy's Network, and it would hurt my feelings instead of making me snicker....
I just don't have the saintly patience of a TGPO, the verbal virtuousity of a Vitualis or the clipped, curt responses of a Baldrick.- housepig

naw... simply reading a few topics and posting in a minor (?!) proportion of them takes up enough time. modding on a big forum is a fulltime job that you should get salaried for
(um... baldrick, chris, & co... you didn't hear me say that.. right.. dont want this forum to become paid-membership-only like SA is..)-= She sez there's ants in the carpet, dirty little monsters! =-

Stop it, you're killing me!!!!!!!!tgpo, my real dad, told me to make a maximum of 5,806 posts on vcdhelp.com in one lifetime. So I have. -
Thanks, but no, thanks!
I wouldn't mind being an assistant though to Baldrick.*** My computer can beat me at chess, but is no match when it comes to kick-boxing. *** -
I'd probably be too sensitive about it all. I get hurt feelings now, as it is, just trying to help someone and either they ignore it, or thank every guy that responded and skip over me. :c*
Or I get aggravated that I've asked a legitimate question and someone responds with an answer that shows they obviously did not read all of the question's details.
There are no female mods probably because there are so few (if any other!) females on here. It's a sad fact but even here - like most places online, you take your chances even admitting you're female. Sad - really sad, but true.
I don't post a lot. I pick & choose them carefully and I did not even sign on as a member 'til I had been reading through for months. I don't answer questions unless I really believe I may be helping, and the odd off topic threads that grab my interest.
As a woman, I choose to completely avoid some threads just guessing what's going on in them. But, having said that, I have to add that this forum is the only one I've ever spent lots of time on and felt reasonably safe & good about it. :c) For the most part, it's got a great bunch of nice guys!
The mods do a fantastic job and I think highly of them. Maybe you could test out short-term mods sometimes, like when people go on vacation, etc.
I could never be a mod 'cause it takes me too long to keep correcting all my typos! Someone with the right answer would beat me to it every time! :cD -
Gees,
The forum is a richer and more diverse place because of your participation
Don't lose heart, we all appreciate your input (at least those of us that aren't total losers)
You mentioned avoiding certain threads, I agree that sometime they stretch the limits of the AUP, but at least this place is better Yahoo!
I abandoned the Yahoo forums because they always degenerated into name calling!Just what is this reality thing anyway? -
id have to say no as well, too many other things going on right now
@tgpo
for some reason,i thought "kitty" was a female mod
