I want to get started on building my next computer (strictly for video), and was wondering if you all could give me some advice on what I should get, such as what type of Mother Board, what type of memory (2100, 2700, 3200) and if it is not to much can you tell me why. Reason being is I dont know too much about building a computer from the ground up so I would like to know as much as I can before I actually start doing it.

I already have a Sony dual format DVD burner, I just ordered the Canopus ADVD 100 ( should arrive in a day or two). I like AMD so I think I am going to stick with it. I am thinking of getting a AMD ATHLON XP 3000 "Barton" 400MHz FSB PROCESSOR CPU- OEM for $275. I am also going to order 2 WD WESTERN DIGITAL 200GB 7200RPM EIDE HARD DRIVES for $181 each.

PS. If you give a suggestion on a Mother Board, can you also say if it is compatible with the processor that I am thinking of ordering.

Any info would be much appreciated. If possible, please provide a link of any product you think I should get.

Hope I am not asking for too much.

    THANKS.

The ASUS A7N8X Delux for sure price $115.00 appox.

    http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=A7N8X%20Deluxe&langs=09

Supports your CPU , on board items are awesome, DUAL DDR memory support . I would also say go with PC2700 or higher for memory. Nice deals on matched DUAL DDR sets.

Why ASUS ? They are just storming the industry with solid performance and stability. SO are some others but I just think feature wise and partner relationships with ASUS are very goo.

Your going to have a SWEET system........

    Best to you

  4. I have this exact MB and it's great. I have never had a problem. It never crashes, all the features work as they should and Serial ATA RULES!

I would suggest a P4 instead of an Athlon for a pure video editing PC. The P4 has better features (hyper-threading, 800MHz FSB) and P4's blow AMD out of the water. Now don't get me wrong AMD's are great for the price and excellent for all round use, but a P4 is definitely better for video applications.

  11. You seem to have chosen to use an onbaord sound card on a motherboard. The onbaord sound seems to have a lot of issues on any motherboard, so I would suggest a good sound card like this: http://www.americas.creative.com/products/product.asp?maincategory=461&category=461&product=471

For a motherboard I would suggest an Abit board. They can be expensive, but seem to be market leaders with a lot of good onboard functions.

Perhaps the ABIT is not as feature packed as you think then ? Just jabbing.

The ONBOARD sound on the ASUS board has received TOP RATINGS and reviews indicating that a sound card is NOT needed. It is pretty darn good. I have a sound card myself, but only because I had the creative labs card .

If you did go P4 instead of an AMD , here is a good article
