  1. I currently have 512mb PC800 RDRAM

how much of a diffence will I notice to processing large image files etc if I add another 512mb ?

will it be worth the upgrade as rdram is pricey

  2. This would've fit better in the new Computer forum, but I'll answer it anyway.

I doubt it will make much of a difference - after 512 MB, it is hard to notice a performance gain.

Will make a difference but I agree not considerably upgrade your processor. You do not list your comp specs, what are they ?

  5. CPU is more important than ram. You might a few nano seconds faster, but not worth the cash

  6. It really depends on what you're using your machine for...

Dealing with trully large image files (stills) uses a lot of memory - so if you're using your machine to design and edit a billboard, then the memory upgrade might be worthwhile.

If you mean, however, video editing - then the others are right; for encoding etc.. the CPU is so busy number-crunching that the memory never gets that heavy a load.

I personally think that anything over 512mb is slightly overkill on a single-user PC at the moment (unless you're using your machine for something unusual as I said above). Probably in a few months/years 1gig will become the norm, but I've never personally seen my machine have to resort to the paging file in a big way - with only 512mb installed.

    cheers,
