  1. I am not new to making VCDs but recently I got hooked on SVCDs. I use TMPeg for encoding VCDs and SVCDs. But I have heard that CCE is great for making mpeg2 videos from an avi movie file.

I have read all the SVCD authoring guides using CCE from the forum but now I am so confused.

I know that many of you are masters of making SVCDs with CCE. Can you supply me with your perfect method? I'm not ripping from any DVD but encoding from already encoded AVI movie file. I have tried to encode a movie with CCE SP 2.5 stand alone version but at the end of encoding the movie file I get the mvp file but I get now audio extraction. But I have checked the audio output in the setting. Why is this? Is it possible to add subtitles while encoding with CCE or do I have to do this with another program? If I have to use another program to encode the subtitles (my DVD player doesn't support selectable subtitles) will I be losing the video quality which CCE have encoded already?

CCE is very user-unfriendly but from all the raves and by the price tag of this program it must be good and I'd really like to see that for myself.

I hope some of you can help me with my dilema. Thanks in advance.

  2. The best method may vary. It depends on resolution of your source, for example. But you must have in mind you will have to resize your source, through a frameserver, if resolution is diferent than SVCD's (480x480). Then in CCE you will have to setup bitrate and field order.
My experience says that if you are doing a standard SVCD (CBR 2520), you won't get a perceptible gain in quality by using CCE instead TMPEnc.
    That's my experience.

CCE 2.5 has a problem re-encoding the audio. Ripp the audio out and just encoding the video. Uncheck the audio output in CCE.
Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.
