  2. Hi Tralix frustrating isn't it? I did my first double sided to one dvd-r yesterday following this guide https://www.videohelp.com/forum/archive/t162726.html
Do a test burn on a DVD/RW first as i managed to compile a dvd that played part 2 first and then went into the start of part one, so i just renamed the vobs in order and all worked out fine. The film was face off. Hope this helps you. 'O' and the quality is excellent (to me anyway).

Honestly, if you really wish to do this, without all of the drama.. you must get TmpgEnc DVD Author..this software is so simple, even a child could do what you're trying to accomplish.

    First, read this guide =
    http://users.skynet.be/contra/dvddouble.htm

Then Rip one side of the DVD with Smart Ripper and put this into a separate folder..then repeat the same procedure on the second side of the same DVD, but place this file into a DIFFERENT folder.

Use DVD Shrink in RE-AUTHOR mode, to isolate the MOVIE ONLY, (if needed, be sure to keep the sub titles..but DO NOT compress the file.. do this with BOTH side A and side B. again, in two SEPARATE folders.

Now, open TmpgEnc DVD Author..follow the instructions given in the guide...input the Side A folder, DVD Author will automatically change the VOB files back into Mpeg2 files and place 'em into another separate folder..repeat the process with the Side B folder...DVD Author will place those Mpeg2 files into the SAME folder.

Then, DVD Author allows you to create Menus and chapters if you wish..then click OUTPUT.. it will then create a brand new DVD file..

Go back to DVD Shrink..place this new VIDEO_TS folder into DVD Shrink...now you can COMPRESS the file down to the point where it can fit on a DVD R.

You can then burn the resulting file with the burning program that comes with TmpgEnc DVD Author, or any other DVD burning software..

This works like a dream, without all of the hard work that can go into working with the IFO files and renameing the VOB files correctly.

  4. Someone here was saying you can do that easy with the new DVDshrink version 3.0 beta which is still free. I have done it myself in the past using IfoEdit and VobEdit.

you can skip the copy to hard drive as a mpeg file step

    me,

i use power dvd to capture the name of each movie while it is playing

then after i import the first movie, (i clicked 'import dvd video' and add the first movie)

i create the menu with that captured movie picture from power dvd, (named track one)

then i go back and click the 'source setup' tab,

i then click the 'add new track'

then i import my second movie (clicking the 'add dvd video' button again)

    i import the movie

then i add the second captured movie title from power dvd

for my second menu (named track 2)

then i output to my dvd folder (15 to minutes)

then i use DVD Shrink or ic7

    to shrink the movie

this way you access both of your movies directly from the menu (and all of your original chapters from both movies instead of have 80 chapters of one movie)

now if you are doing the same movie you can ignore this

but there is no reason to convert your dvd to mpeg and back

so you can still skip that step

this is just a wasted step

plus there is no reencoding this way

    it's more like remapping
