Hi!
Why can't I burn PowerDisc 2x DVD-R at 2x in my Pioneer A06?
I've upgraded its firmware to 1.06 version and I'm using Nero 6.
I think I'm lost.
Thanks in advance.

i've never heard of "power disk" but if you do some research you'll see that not all disks can be burned at the speed stated by the disk manufacturer for various reasons. Usually it's because the dvd's are of a "generic" nature such as your "POWER DISKS" which i've never heard of.
To make a long story short...those disks unfortuantely probably can't be burned @2x consistnently. You aren't the only person with this problem...various types of burners/media have this issue. You have the newest Pioneer...I reccomend doing research for the BEST quality 2x media you can get...and get that. If you are trying to save a few pennies then you will have to deal with the consequences...and in this case..the consequences are locked @ burning those power disks @1x.
Sounds like they should be called "LACKOFPOWER DISKS." -
Hi,
The problem is that the Firmware of your burner determents the recording speed. NOT the disk. If the drive recognizes the disk as 2x speed recordable it wil record at 2 speed. If the disk type is unknown OR according to Pioneer (in this case) not certified for two speed recording, you're out of luck.
I personally own a Pioneer 105 drive for which there is a hacked firmware which enables recording of ALL 1x disks at 2x !! Something like this will surrely be made for the A06/106 as well. Until that time, you just have to be a bit more patient to burn dvd's

Hacked firmwares don't suit everyone, though. They use a bastardised lookup table which means the write strategy adopted for "unknown" discs may not be the optimum. By dropping back to a slower speed, the recorder is playing it safe. Until you find a brand that works well under those conditions and on your target hardware, you could well be heading into Coaster Central.
Plus, say goodbye to your warranty ! Hacked firmware invalidates your warranty, and if you ever have any problems with the drive that mean you can't roll it back, Pioneer will probably politely tell you to naff off or send them a cheque for £££ / $$$ in order to put it right.
I never advocate the use of hacked firmwares in recorders solely for the purpose of attacking low grade media at the highest speed possible.
I always say a decent burn is better than a coaster any day. If you're bored waiting for your burn to complete, try doing something else while it's on the job, like being on the job yourself, having your dinner, watching the TV for a bit... anything that takes you away from the slave driving PC for a bit ! -

My problem is that here in Brazil I have no choice. A good DVD-R media (Verbatim, TDK, Pioneer...) costs almost US$7.
And to be honest, I didn't know that problems like those could ocour.
If anybody knows where I can buy good media at reasonable price, here in Brazil, I'll apreciate.
Thanks again. -
To clarify, I'm posting Media Code. I've found this code. It's below.

Check out this link..it's from the DVD MEDIA section of this site. There are 8 or so forms of media with similiar media id's. For the most part, all of them have bad feedback. The "universals" seem to have primarily positive feedback which is good considering 9 people commented on them.
The reason that these disks may have had a more positive response then the others was because they were burned @1x. Look at the burn speed column. More problems were noticed burning @2x. And there were problems with the Prime disks with this media id burned @4x.

Thanks, Man Machine!
I think those people are using hacked firmware. Or other recorder.
