I have a CyberHome CH-DVD 500 and have just started making SVCD's. I was wondering what media is the best for burning the movies to. I need cdr's that have at least 800mb on them because i want to keep my movies down to 2 cd's. Thanks for the help!

With SVCD's there is only ONE type of media you can use.
This being MPEG-2, if you have a source file (usually an .avi) the only type of file you can convert the film into is an MPEG-2.
VCD's on the other hand use MPEG-1
All you need to do is get your source file and convert it with a program, for example TMPGEnc. It will need to be converted into an MPEG-2 file making sure that it is the correct birate.
*for infomation about the gorrect birate used for SVCD's click on the link: www.dvdrhelp.com/svcd/ -
Phunkie Munky:
I think you misread his post, he's asking about media.
700MB / 80 Minute CD-R's
Make your MPEG-2 files 800MB, they will fit, no overburning required.
Write speed could be debated, lots of people will say not to burn faster then 4x, I burn at 24x and havent had a problem with a player not playing the CD.
I've used different media, and they all seem to work the same for me, o I go with whatever I can get my hands on cheap.Ejoc's CVD Page:
DVDDecrypter -> DVD2AVI -> Vobsub -> AVISynth -> TMPGEnc -> VCDEasy
DVD:
DVDShrink -> RecordNow DX
Capture:
VirualDub -> AVISynth -> QuEnc -> ffmpeggui -> TMPGEnc DVD Author -

ppl mentioning firmware upgrades...you could try reading more in depth on user comments about your dvd player
some have probs w/ SVCDs, while others don't...could be firmware issue again....

@k2snowbarder1988,
just making sure.....the 700 MB limit of 80-min CD-Rs is for MODE 1 burning of DATA/AUDIO
you need MODE 2 burning for (S)VCDs, which fits 800 MB on 80-min CD-R: https://www.videohelp.com/nerosvcd.htm
btw, you actually need to subtract out overhead...which means you could fit around 795 MB (i've gotten 795.61 MB to fit)
