This method works for me, it may not quite fill up a DVD, but it's good enough that I have never had it run over the limit.
A dvd-r holds 4700MB (mega bytes) of data; now take only 4650 of that leaving 50MB for still menus and other things. Multiply the 4650 by 8 (bits per byte) to get 37,200Mb (mega bits). If for instance your movie is 90 minutes long then multiply the 90 by 60 to get the movie length in seconds, which would be 5,400 seconds. Now divide the space available (37,200) by the time in seconds (5,400) to get the overall stream data rate of 6.889Mbps (mega bits per second). Next divide the overal rate by 1.03 to allow for multiplexing overhead, which gives 6.688Mbps available for video and audio. Now subtract the data rate of your audio. If you had ac3 audio at 384Kbps, then you would subtract 0.384 from 6.688 to get 6.304Mbps available for video.
If you are putting two movies on a dvd-r, then just add the time of the two movies together, and use the higher of the two audio bitrates if they are different. If you try out the calculations, you'll see that you can put two movies on a dvd-r at a quality similar to SVCD. -
i understand that m8 but where do i change this in tmpgenc or are you using a diffrent encoder?
please tell me exactly where m8
