  1. I have some footage that is 16 X 9. I want to export it to tape so that it is letterboxed. Can I do this in premiere? I know I can render an effect to do this but I would rather not wait.
    Thanks

If you capture the footage in 16x9 then you will be able to export it as well with Premier.

  3. If you possibly bring your DV AVI into Premiere's DV NTSC 4:3 template and right click your AVI on the timeline, then click "Maintain Aspect Ratio" it is possible it will work.

If not, you may have to export the AVI to your HH with the letterboxing, then import again onto the timeline and export to camera.

Sometimes the "maintain aspect ratio" works for me with 16:9 footage on the 4:3 timeline, sometimes not.

  4. sdlehman,
I don't want to export it 16:9 I want to export it letter boxed. Right now if I export it to 4:3 the picture is squeezed(anamorphic).

    Faceman101,
I tried that a couple of times with no success. I was able to achieve the effect in AE. But again I had to wait for the render.

I found a way to do this in the Adobe support knowledgebase over a year ago and tried it with less than satisfactory results. It involves exporting the timeline to avi (or quicktime) and importing that into a new project with different settings. The quality I got was poor.

If you want to try it, the Support Knowledgebase Document number is 326126. You will need to render the timeline between steps 11 and 12. I'd love to hear about it if you find a way that gives decent quality.

  6. Dick White,
I achieved it simply by importing the movie into AE and changed the vertical scale I think that's the easiest.

    pmcarro,

Thanks, I'll try that when I get AE.

Actually, shouldn't be too long. I have a bundle of all the new Adobe DV software on order and I hoping it will be here later this month.
