  1. So, I just bought the Jurassic Park DVD, and backed it up before I watched it (i like to watch my backups first, so I know they work).

Anyway, I have a 36" flat screen toshiba (not High Def), but I threw in my backed up Jurassic Park, and just stood right in front of the TV, making sure it worked. So, I'm looking closely, and I notice pixelation, not bad, but it's very evident. I immediately assumed it was either bad media, or a bad burn. I then put the original disc in, and noticed the same thing.

Granted, once I stepped away from the tv, and sat where I normally do, I couldn't see the pixelation, and the movie looked fine. I just have never noticed that kind of pixelation on any of the other movies i've backed up, which is why I was surprised when I saw it on Jurassic Park.

It just seems to me that they would've done a better job encoding that disc, especially since it's dual layer... It also seems that the pixelation would be even worse on an HDTV, has anyone w/ an HDTV noticed this?

I don't have JURASSIC PARK on DVD but it is not all that uncommon to find commercially produced DVD discs that have less than excellent quality.

For instance the Warner Bros DVD of EXCALIBUR is just horrible with pixelation all over the place. I just checked EXCALIBUR with DVD DECRYPTER and it is a DVD9 (single side dual layer) disc.

So these things do happen unfortunately.
