  1. What is the best way to take a movie that spans two disks (such as gangs of new york) and get it on one dvd. I use DVD shrink as my tool right now, but not sure if this is possible in that program? Anybody offer anyhelp? Can this be done in DVD shrink? If not is it reseaonable easy to do with any other program?

    thanks

In my opinion it is the best thing to come out of Holly/shit/wood in years and worth the 2 disc's but if you disagree,
    Try a SEARCH = gangs

My process for Gangs of New York (2 disc movie)

    Software you will need:

    DVDdecrypter
    DVD2One
    Vobedit
    IfoEdit
    Burning Program of your choice

1.Rip 1st disc with DVD Decrypter (movie only) to a folder.
2.Run the 1st disc through DVD2One choosing a total ouput files size of about 2.2 gigs.
3.Rip the 2nd disc with DVD Decrypter (movie only) to a separate folder than that of the 1st disc.
4.Run the 2nd disc through DVD2One choosing a total output files size of about 2.2 gigs.
5.Now go here http://ifoedit.wh.fr0zen.com/joinclip.html#joindbl and follow the instructions carefully on “Joining double sided DVDs”

Disregard steps 1 & 2 regarding IfoEdit and follow these:

1.Once you have ALL the VOBS together and in one single directory (this is where you should be if you followed the above instructions) you should have the below:

    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_01_3.VOB
    VTS_01_4.VOB
    VTS_01_5.VOB
    VTS_01_6.VOB

Notice I have deleted all the IFO and BUP files.

2.Open IfoEdit and click “Create IFOS”. Select the first VOB (VTS_01_1.VOB) in your final folder and click ok.
3.Once complete, in IfoEdit again click “Open” and select the VTS_01_0.IFO file that IfoEdit just created.
4.Now click “Get VTS Sectors” and select “Yes” through all the prompts. It is VERY important that this step be completed.
5.Done authoring. Now burn with your program of choice.

Uh-oh. Somebody forgot to list VOBedit 0.60 to be used in joining clips.

  8. This worked for me (copied from another thread):

Then I used these steps provided by Megahurts:

2 Delete all VIDEO_TS files and rename all the disk 2 files and move to disk 1 folder as such.

    VTS_01_0.BUP (disk 1)
    VTS_01_0.IFO
    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_02_0.BUP (disk 2)
    VTS_02_0.IFO
    VTS_02_1.VOB
    VTS_02_2.VOB

3 Run DVDToolbox, source = disk 1 folder, click 'Create video manager (VIDEO_TS.IFO)'. Takes about 1 sec. Close DVDToolbox.
The only difference was I had to use DVDFab instead of DVD Toolbox to create the video manager file because my version of Toolbox didn't have an option for this. Finally I created the disk with DVDToolbox.

    The key steps are to:

    1. Rip the DVD
    2. Compress the files
    3. Rename the 2nd disk files
    4. Remove the VIDEO_TS files
    5. Rebuild the Video Manager files (VIDEO_TS files)
    6. Create the new disk

How you do this depends on what software works best for you. It's also clear that there is more than one way to accomplish this, but this produced good results for me....

One question for JohnnyCNote and Vance:

If I leave the two sides as two separate titlesets, will the end of titleset 1 automatically go to the beginning of titleset 2? Or will title 2 have to be accessed directly by the remote?

  12. I have to switch manually to the 2nd part, but I can do it with the remote instead of having to get up and manually change disks. There is supposed to be a way to get it to switch manally, but I couldn't get it to work. Overall it's a minor inconvenience to change to the 2nd part compared to the fact it saves a whole disk....

you have to use the remote

you could also use tmpgenc dvd author or dvd lab
since in your case that is the same movie

but them programs are pickly when you do 2 different dvds to one

both movie have to have the same parameters (like exact video size, audio, etc) for them programs to work

  14. I did it the old fasioned way. Rip with Smartripper, DVD2AV1, TMPGEnc for each disc then both Video TS files into SpruceUp. Very high quality. Both discs on one disc, Part one and part two. ........... harrymj3

This is my original post which explains how to automaticaly play disk2 after disk1.
    __________________________________________________ ____________________

Yet another way to do Gangs of New York

1 Use DVD2One to transcode each disk to a seperate folder (movie only - 2.1g ea).
2 Delete all VIDEO_TS files and rename all the disk 2 files and move to disk 1 folder as such.

    VTS_01_0.BUP (disk 1)
    VTS_01_0.IFO
    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_02_0.BUP (disk 2)
    VTS_02_0.IFO
    VTS_02_1.VOB
    VTS_02_2.VOB

3 Run DVDToolbox, source = disk 1 folder, click 'Create video manager (VIDEO_TS.IFO)'. Takes about 1 sec. Close DVDToolbox.

The next steps are to automatically play disk 2 after disk 1. If you choose not to do them, select the 2nd disk with the player remote (Title = 2).

4 Open the VTS_01.0.IFO with IFOEdit > VTS_PGCITI > PGC_1, scroll down to "There is no PGC Command Table"
5 Right click and choose "Add Post Command"
6 Right click on 1.Post Command > edit command
7 Command: (CallSS_VMGM) Call VideoManager PGC, PGC Nr: 2, Resume Cell 1
    8 Click Save

One annoying thing about this movie is the 3 sec delay between disk 1 and 2 due to the 3 sec of black at the end of disk 1.

    Bhola

I used DVDtoolbox to create the VIDEO_TS.IFO file. Sorry, no menu.

I like using multiple titlesets for 2 disk movies as the original chapters, subtitles, and audio tracks are intact, with little effort.

BTW, DVDtoolbox has been replaced with DVDfab and will do the same.

    Regards,

    Chas

when u do what u want to do

u will have to drop the menus

it a little too complicated to explain it

but it is impossible to change the ifo for the vts_01_0 (main menu vob of movies)of both discs when u are combining stuff because that ifo had u going to a specific point of the movie and combining that with other dvd info is impossible

now u can import your menus with program such as neodvd plus (u will have a/v sync issues on most dvds) or problaly the program that txpharoah mention above

but u can't do what u want because ifos navigate to a certain part of a dvd
that was made for that specific dvd not for the other dvd

now u could use a variation of my method to get the menu things on the dvd

too much typing to explain here

but u are going to have to drop the vts_01_0 vobs (main menu vobs) regardless

p.s. it is possible with ifoedit to change the navigation pointers

but it is difficult and to long to explain and you're moving into super rocket scientist territory

After the VIDEO_TS.IFO is created in DVDtoolbox, I noticed the other IFOs dates were changed. I never had to fix the ifo files. Works everytime.

    Cheers,
