    Can anyone tell me whether copying home movie DVDs (to gets ome copies to the family) is as simple as putting one in my laptop drive and then hooking up my external DVD-burner?

    It has been a bit of a habit of mine to copy the entire contents of the DVD to my HD first - I find on the fly can be a bit dicey. Essentially you have the right idea.
