Okay, this doesn't seem right, i've have 37gig's total on my HD, and right now i've have about 32gigs left. I've riped 3 movies with a total about 18 gigs. After i've deleted all the 18gig .vob files from my computer, I've now have a total of 24.5 gigs left on my HD. How could that be? I used to have around 33+'s gigs on my HD. what ever happen to the other 6-10 gigs that i have?

They're still in the trash?

NO. How do you delete your .vobs files? I've just right click on the folder and delete the whole folder where the .vob are stored.

I use "select all" under Edit, then right click and delete, then empty the trash to free up the space.

you sure its not temp files that are using up that space? a lot of times i notice a few hundred mbs missing and they are all temp files that stood in the folder for some reason.

Do you have Norton Utilities installed? You'll see things like that if you have a utility (like Norton Utilities' Unerase) running that saves deleted files for a while so you can recover them. You don't get all of the space back unless you manually tell Norton you don't want those files anymore.

Yeah, i do have Norton installed. When ive first install the program, it replace my Recycle Bin with a Norton protected Recycle Bin. but i didn't liked it, so i 've which it back to the normal Recycle Bin. Since i'm not using the Norton Protected Recycle Bin, i'm assuming it will not hold my deleted files?
hmm..if it is holding my deleted files, where in Norton do you tell it to delete it? -
Off the top of my head I don't remember all the configuration stuff for Norton, but if it is saving the files you can right-click the recycle bin and select "Empty Norton Protected Files" to dump them all. You can also go in to the unerase wizard and delete individual files if you only want to get rid of a few big ones and keep the rest.

Tell me what operating system you are running and I'll tell you how to convince Norton to release them. The solution is on their web site. Windows likes to hide files you cannot see.
-
I don't think Norton is causing the problem, cuz i'm not using the Norton protected Recycle Bin.

the HDD is prolly just mis-reporting the free space...
if you have norton, use norton's disk doctor -

I don't think so, what's the disk doctor anyways?
Now, its even more (*&^^&** now my HD has 13 gigs total out of 37 gigs. and i dont even have any rip movies on it. XP OS alone used what..!?!? 2 gigs? and i have about 8 gigs of stuff on my HD. how could i only have 13 gigs left? -
Try running the standard "System Tools" Disk Clean Up, be sure to check all the temp files you want to remove, there will be a screen open to your left with all this in it, I select all and let Disk Clean Up remove all. Try that

Maybe the windows 'system restore" files are eating up your drive, they do get rather large. Also I think you need to enable "view all files" in order to see all the windows system and hidden files on your drive.

right click your hard drive select properties, disk cleanup. should do the trick

Since you have Norton Utilities, try this:
Open Norton Utilities
Find & Fix Problems
UnErase Wizard
Run the UnErase Wizard. When it's done searching the Protected files you'll see a box full of files. Simply highlight the vob files, right-click on them, and select delete. You'll get your HD space back.
This happened to me today when I backed-up The Jerk and I recovered all my "missing" HD space. -
