I downloaded an AVI that uses DivX 5.0 (says so in Gspot). It won't open in Virtualdub. The following error message appears:

Couldn't locate decompressor for format "DX50" (unknown)
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.

I selected it as a Video Source in TMPGEnc and it loaded fine. No error messages. So is there any way to open it in VDub?

    dear friend

DX50 is not the same thing as
    DivX 5.0

dxFIFTY is a seperate codec. do a forum search here for dx50 and you will find the solution

I use ffdshow already and I checked off DivX 5. It plays in mplayer2.exe but not in VDub. And there is no "dx50" codec in the Tools page.

Nevermind, I downloaded the Divx5.0.5 Bundle and installed only the codec. It opens in VDub now! Thanks!
