SVCD2DVDMPG Only Patches First Two Files In The Batch!

I just used SVCD2DVDMPG, and noticed after it was all done only the first 2 out of 12 files had been patched to 352 width!

What I had: Twelve 480x480 SVCD
Settings Used: SVCD Input, MPG to ES, Patch entire file to 352

It seemed to do fine with the demultiplexing and resampling, but when I went to add the MPV's to my authoring program, I found out that only the first two were successfully patched. I verified this with DVDPatcher.

Since my authoring program does a good job resampling audio, and since DVDPatcher does a good job patching single files, it is only the batch patching capability of SVCD2DVDMPG that make it useful -- and that doesn't seem to work!

I had noticed this problem a previous time, when I tried to use it for repatching VOB's---it only did the first two! So this is not an isolated incident.

I am having this same problem. It is stopping after 3 files. What is the problem here?

It's just a buggy program, and will never work reliably if you choose the "patch full file" option.

It is, actually, a file-specific problem. Certain files just cause SVCD2DVDMPG to hang during the patching phase.

Fortunately, I have found that if I patch to 720 instead of 352, I can get away with only patching the first header...maybe you could give that a try, but whether or not this will work depends on your authoring software.

Alternatively, DVD-Lab is an authoring package that accepts SVCD resolution files-- thus no patching needed.

Garbage in = garbage out

You only need to patch to accommodate the authoring application. If you use DVDLab, which accept 480 horizontal resolution then you don’t need to patch (as you say). Unlike DVDLab, SVCD2DVDMPG+ accepts both SVCD AND VCD resolutions without the need for patching.

My observations are based on careful experiment.

Fact #1:
Some files cause SVCD2DVDMPG to hang/stall during the patching phase. I've only seen this happen when patching full file, not first header.

Fact #2:
I can take these same files, run them through DVDPatcher v.1.06, patch full file, and then use them in my authoring program (currently TMPGEnc DVD Author) with beautiful results. (And these are beautiful, near DVD-quality files, too...not garbage)

Discussion:
If DVDPatcher doesn't hang, then why does SVCD2DVDMPG?

Of course DVDPatcher doesn't do batch processing, which makes it inconvenient to use. But then SVCD2DVDMPG is even more inconvenient, because when it *does* hang, there is no way to *resume* with the remaining files....I mean, that would be something nice if it actually decided after waiting for 10 minutes, that yes, something went wrong with the patching, and it reported it in the log and moved on to the next file. Then I could go in with DVDPatcher and manually patch the problem files.

I haven't tried DVD-Lab yet...

Ive had NO problem with transcoding 5+ svcd mpg's at once,make sure the file has a valid .mpg extension.
With CoolB's svcdtodvd rip guide i love this lil progg even more, 2-3 movies on a dvd in less than a hour....screw 24 hour+ Ulead movie factory conversions...tried even nero 6's new encoding....same thing after first part.....FREEZE!!!
