  1. I want to capture good quality mpeg2 using an analog source from my tv or vcr. I have software now, but the best bitrate that I can capture with is 6000. I don't like that at all. Is there software out there that will allow me to capture at 9000? Just like pro DVD's are.

What software do you have ? If it's from Intervideo, chances are you can change your recording profile to get a higher MPEG-2 bitrate. However, you will need a very FAST CPU (2.5 GHz+) to be able to capture MPEG-2 in real time at those high bitrates. Also, the higher the bitrate the less time you will be able to fit onto a 4.37 GB (1024**3) DVD.

I suggest capturing to AVI first using MMJPEG codec and then converting to MPEG using 2-pass VBR - you can get much better results this way although it takes longer ...

    Cheers,

    Pedro.

  3. What capture card do you have and what software do you use? Try to post as many details as you think necessary for people to answer your question or fill out the computer specs section in your profile so people have as many details as they can to find out what your problem is and give you a solution.

  4. I have Power Director Pro 2.5

I've tried recording in avi uncompressed. But it's to much of a hassle for me to record it that way then, compress it. However I am able to compress the avi file at 8000, which looks good. I just wish I could capture at least that with mpeg2

What capture card are you using ?

Did PowerDirector Pro come with it ?

When you set up your capture, is it possible to select a compression codec for the AVI ?
