I am confused, I am trying to back up some x-files episodes from DVDs I own to .avi. I have encoded them at 29.97 and 24 and both are in sync. I think these would be obviously from a TV source, so should I be encoding at 29.97? And I am not sure why but the size of the 29.97 fps .avi file is 50 mbs smaller then the 24 fps .avi? Also, if I do not choose to deinterlace, I see horizontal interlace lines on my TV in certain areas. I thought interlace is supposed to help TV quality? Why am I seeing interlace lines on my TV?

    Thanks

    Probably yes.

Were all other settings the same?

mpeg-4 interlacing is not supported right now. So always deinterlace TV-type sources.
