  1. I want to re-encode the main movie and then author the new file along with the AC3 file in DVD Lab.

What is the easiest way to get the ripped video files into Vegas?

  2. You probably should of posted this question in the DVD AUTHORING section as more people that frequent that forum would have an answer for you then here. All I can tell you is that hopefully you don't have an .M2V file because I don't believe Vegas Video accepts .M2V files. I helped a friend with VEGAS VIDEO a while back so I remember that it didn't accept .m2v files....I don't remember what we did...but basically you just drag your files to the timeline if I remember correctly. You have to have the video file in the form of MPEG though..or one of a few other options. Your .AC3 track should be fine...just drag it in.

What form is your video file in?

Just vobs. I'm open to ripping to something else if that's better.

  4. I found that using DVD2AVI with VFAPI works.

  5. If they are VOB files that won't work....you'll have to get one big MPEG file I believe....sorry Michelle...I'm just not seasoned enough with VV to be able to assist you. I think you'd get more response if this question were posted in the DVD "AUTHORING" section. Hopefully someone else will come along here though and assist you better...good luck

  6. The Authoring section has a sticky saying that 'DVD to DVDR' posts are not welcome there.

I believe I will get one MPEG file but I haven't tested that yet. I don't understand why it would be a problem either way.

It's a fine line for a lot of posts Michelle..just like this one...but this wonderful forum is so amazing that it really specializes right on those "fine lines" sometimes. Your post has to do with getting files into Vegas Video. Vegas video is Video editing and authoring software, so your question would be more suited to that forum.

Also, more advanced users frequent the "authoring" forum. Being that your probably going to be "converting" those VOB files into another form in order to get VV to recognize them for authoring...you could even post this on the "advanced conversion" forum. Either way....you will get more response there then you would here...my suggestion is you just edit your post...take out the question and write the word "moved" yourself...along with the words "EDIT" ....then the mods won't get on you for "double posting." Just my advice...and one of those two forums should get you all the info you need to solve your problem.

    Good Luck

you can drop a VOB file right into Vegas - except if its ac3 you will have to convert to wave files, but the video will show up fine ..

  9. Thanks. I tried re-encoding using the DVD2AVI/VFAPI method and the results were quite bad. Nero Recode looked a lot better and only took one eighth the time. I'm puzzled by this because I've been satisfied with encoding in Vegas using original material. I don't expect a recode to look as good but it should look as least as good as an SVCD and it doesn't even though the bitrate is much higher.
