  1. I´m about to buy a DVD player to use with my 16:9 TV. Is it best to buy a stand alone (can play CD-R) or a built in (for my p166, need TV card also). Is it possible to get dolby digital from a built in? What should I buy?

If you want to use a DVD player for watching movies on your TV, in my opinion a stand-alone player is better. It will give better picture quality than a video card with TV-out, and you won't need to use your noisy PC.

Also for playback of a DVD on your PC with a software dvd player (MPEG-2 decoder), you will need a 350MHz CPU at the least, a P166 is not powerfull enough.

Some stand alone players have a dolby digital processor built in others dont. For the best sound quality you want to use a seperate dolby digital processor, otherwise a built in dd decoder on the player will do just fine.
