  1. Hi,
I have in mind to buy a DVR-/+R writer.
My question is if using latest DVR-/+R writers, we can copy SACD or DVD-Audio from originals (I DONT MEAN to write DVD-Video with 5.1 audio tracks!)

    I suppose that writing SACD/DVD-Audio is only a writing-software issue (?).
If this is correct, is there in the market such software?
And what about SACD/DVD-Audio copy protection?

    Thanks

  2. I'm not exactly an expert on this, but here goes an answer.

I expect that technically a DVD-A is the same type of disc as a DVD video disc, but I wouldn't be surprised if few PC drives can read them. For starters, I'm sure they beefed up the CSS encryption of the DVD vidoe format since it was broken years ago.

I think SACDs are slightly different beasts- for example there are "dual format" discs out there- with one layer that's readable in most CD drives and another layer readable by SACD capable machines.

    Interested in hearing any responses.

ps- anyone know of a set top DVD player that plays both SACDs and DVD-As?

  3. Sony make a number of players that will play SACD's as well, but I'm not sure about the DVD-Audio part.

I don't think SACD's are close enough to DVD's to be written on existing hardware, nor read back on it, for that matter. The format is too new. Software alone will not do all this just yet...

it may be possible to backup a dvd-audio. however, dvd-audio use a different type of encyption from that used in dvd-video, so you can use softwares like dvdxcopy to make backups. i dont know if there are many backup softwares out for dvd-audio so you may have to wait a while. there are softwares for creating dvd-audio discs such as discwealder or something like that but the software is expensive at the moment.

  5. I have scanned the player lists and there are a number of players that will play dvd audio and sacd.. but are these formats ever going to catch on in a large way?? .. most people are sick of buying thier music on CD let alone go out and buy it on sacd and/or dvd-audio (and buy the dvd-video). I personally think Sacd and dvd-audio are niche markets for audio phile's only and that more people will be interested in hearing concerts in 5.1 on 'ordinary' dvd players.
(i still think mono hifi is better than stereo Lofi, but thats another argument).
