TMPGEnc or Vegas Video 3

Hello,
Any opinions on TMPGEnc vs Vegas Video for encoding VCD compliant files. I've used VV's VCD template but am curious about TMPGEnc, It seems to be quite popular.

vegas uses the mainconcept encoder there are many posts here comparing the two

tmpgenc is free therefore popular
vegas is not free.

tmpgenc is said to be slower, but on my computer vegas 4 is slower than tmpgenc

TMPGENC is very very good at VCD's and as pointed out - is free (for mpeg1) ..

Vegas video IS faster (if not you have some other proccessing going on in vegas or have a slower system or not using the latest encoder version or made the mistake of setting for best instead of good - which is a common error (best is only for resizing to a very high precision)).

BUT - on a very fast HT or dual cpu system i find tmpgenc plenty fast (not as fast as MC or CCE - but no slouch either) ..



tip : Vegas 3 can use the same mpeg encoder build as version 4 ...

tmpgenc is far the best, ive tried others, but have settled with tmpgence

as others have said invest a little time with it, at 1st you might get annoyed but it will work out in the end

It took me about a month to learn TMPGEnc and everything that anyone would need to know about video editting in general. But, I had a lot of time (summer vacation)
