  1. I know that you can put about 3-5 SVCD movies on a single sided dvd disc. Since a double sided disc can hold twice as much data, does that mean I could get about 10 movies on one disc? Do the 9 GB disc work in all dvd players?

  2. single-layer, single-sided >>> DVD5

    single-layer, double-sided >>> DVD10

    dual-layer, single-sided >>> DVD9

    dual-layer, double-sided >>> DVD18

commercial DVDs exist in all above 4 sizes.

DVD recordable formats (-/+R) only exist as DVD5 and DVD10.

DVD10 (double-sided, single-layer) is basically just a DVD5 on each side of the disc. basically, there's almost no difference between 2 completely separate DVD5 discs and 1 DVD10 disc...other than the obvious 2 disc vs. 1 disc.

so, in answer to your question....since DVD10 is basically the same as 2 DVD5, DVD10 should work in any dvd player that also reads DVD5, since to the dvd player, each side of the DVD10 reads just like a DVD5.

    however, there's some cons:

    1) usually 1 DVD10 disc costs more than 2 DVD5 discs

    2) since both side of the disc contains recording surface, it's easier to damage (i.e. scratch, expose to sunlight, dust, etc..) you also won't be able to label the disc because there's no labeling surface.

    3) you still need to get up off your arse from the couch and physically flip the DVD10 over. so, either 2 separate DVD5 discs, or 1 DVD10 disc, you still need to get up and switch/flip discs.

  3. if you have a multi-disc DVD player, then 2 DVD-5's would be better
