  1. Is there any way to do this? I just got my dad's old copy of FLASH that he doesn't use anymore and I want to do some streaming audio (NO video) for the web in FLASH. I've heard you can convert MP3's, etc. to this format. Does anyone have any idea how to do it? Maybe there is a way to do it with external tools?

it's been a while, but I think that from version 4 onward, Flash supports importing .wav and .mp3, so you could just import your stuff into your movie, and render your .swf with no graphics, just audio.

I'm not sure what that would gain you, though - I'm not sure that it compresses it or changes the way it streams - if I had a 30-second wav file in a Flash animation, it's still going to have to load the wav before you play it....

if you don't get any better answers, when I get home I'll check my Flash Bible and see if I can get you some more info...

you might also check www.flashplanet.com - if I recall correctly, they have a wad of tutorials and info. also check www.macromedia.com and see if they have a manual or tech info on the compression / streamability of audio assets in a .swf file.

  3. Housepig-

The purpose for doing this would be for background audio in a web page. I have no need for any kind of video. So all I want really is to stream the flash audio file. I was messing around at a web page called www.audiogenerator.com
and they were claiming to be able to do this on your web page for $30 a month. Well, not when I can do it myself for free! Anyway, is there a better streaming audio format than flash that doesn't require a separate media player popping up like MS or realplayer?

I'll be checking the links you gave me- thanks for the tips. I'll see what else I can dig up.
