  1. ok, the subject is a little off, what i'm questioning is can a dvd be ripped (with say, dvd decrypter) and then the .vobs be xferred to .mpg2 and still retail the menu system from the original dvd? i'm trying to make some backups of some of my dvds, and most of them are dvd9, so i was using dvdshrink to drop some quality to fit them on one dvd, but i'm getting errors when trying to play them.

i have WONDERFUL luck by taking .mpg2 files and creating personal menus and such and then encoding them into an .iso file and playing on standalone dvd players, but when i try to burn them from video_ts directories, they don't end up playing properly. so i don't know if the error is coming from the .vob files or not, but it's a good guess since the other mpeg2s will work just fine.

    so, summed up main question:

is it possible to transfer an original menu from a dvd movie into a form to be converted/added to another format? i can find the info on xfer from .vob to .mpg, i'm just curious about the menus and/or what software or guides would be most useful.

i've used nero for most of it, and the .isos burn fine from nero, but the dvd directories don't seem to be working.

    any tips?

    addendum:

the .mpg2 files that i have successfully used and burned have already been in some type of format OTHER than .vob files. i've used tv capture, vcr capture, avi, divx, mov, etc and converted to mpeg2 (if not already) and had all success with those. the failure has been from ripping a dvd and reburning the .vob files.

are you going from DVD to DVD-R/+R or going from DVD to SVCD?

  4. i actually found some useful info in the dvd2svcd sections on how to rip the .vob menu from a dvd to then incorporate into the movies

of course tmpenc has been tied up for 10+ hours now so i haven't been able to finish the project, but i'll keep an update on how it turns out

    thanks again.
