Hello all,
I have literally 3 vhs tapes (not copyright protected) that I want to transfer to either a DVD or my PC.
I don't have a tv tuner video card (9600GT is my video card) or a VCR.
The cheapest way I can think of to transfer them is to buy a dvd/vcr recorder device and then return it once I'm done.
Any other ideas on cheap alternatives?

Can you say Wal-Mart? If you're gonna buy/return anything, I would get a standalone dvd recorder. Forget about the combo, you might lose something with a combo unit. Just my opinion. A dvd recorder is nice to have. You could always pay someone to do this for you.

Are these camcorder tapes?
Dub houses do VHS dubs to DVD or data disk from $10 up depending on length.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Sorry, these are vhs tapes. i'm just going to buy and then return a dvd recorder/vhs combo. The tapes are of a personal nature so I don't want anyone else recording them to dvds.

It's fortunate you said picture quality wasn't important. The tape players in combo units are dreadful.
