VCD's aren't burned in data mode. If you want to copy an (S)vcd then just do a straight disk copy.

    1) if you're backing up your DVDs, they should be burned as DVD VIDEO, not DVD DATA

    2) for (S)VCD copying, if you have 2 drives, you can do a on-the-fly 1:1 copy

    3) if you don't wanna risk that, you could copy the aveseq01.dat (.mpg for SVCD) to your hdd. then, you can load that file into nero's (S)VCD template and burn as (S)VCD, respectively.

    In Nero YES

But he said he used RecordNow Max that recognizes VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS automatically, you have no other option to burn DVD but as Data Job

To copy an existing CD (even VDC, SVCD) just use the Wizard-->Make an exact copy
You can do it on-the-fly OR select the same drive as reader and writer (so it goes to the HDD first)
