  1. Hard to believe i'm actually writing this...but i've now gone through about 70 of the 75 Philips DVD+R 2.4x "CMC" manufactured disks which I exchanged those crappy Verbatim disks for...and to my AMAZEMENT...not a SINGLE COASTER has been created! Not only has a single coaster not been created...I have put almost 4.37 GB's of Data on several of the disks..and they play flawlessly..all the way through.

I was very cautious with these disks initially, given CMC's gloomy reputation....so I actually watched the first 10 or so movies in their entirety....just to make sure there were no issues ANYWHERE on the disks...then re-ripped all of the disks to the HD...and all of them passed with flying colors.

I would never KNOWINGLY purchase ANY CMC manufactured disk again...but if these Philips were the ONLY disks around when I needed disks...I wouldn't even hesitate to grab them.

Now, I'm really hoping some media expert can explain how in the hell CMC can make such crappy Verbatim disks...as well as just about every other disk they manufacter...but they can really make some serious Philips DVD+R media?

There has got to be an explanation...even if it isn't logical.......even if the last 5 Philips disks are all defects..i'd still be 70 outta 75 ......I couldn't even get a ratio with 5 GOOD DISKS in a SINGLE VERBATIM CMC Spindle....so that really does speak VOLUMES!

Just curious what anyone's thoughts might be to explain how in the hell CMC can make some exceptional PHILIPS DVD+R media...(all of which I burned at the max speed of 2.4x by the way) but CMC does nothing but make COASTERS for people the majoirty of the time with all other media.

    DefinitelyHard to believe!

  2. Complete speculations:

    (i) different factory
(ii) poor quality control (you got a bad batch of "Verbatim" CMC and a good batch of "Philips" CMC)
    (iii) different production process

    etc...

    Regards.

  3. Vitualis, ..definitely educated speculation....I thought of i and iii, however, ii would seem to be out of the question as not only did I have a ridiculous amount of issues with those Verbatim CMC disks...but numerous other posters did as well. Some couldn't burn the disks at 1x while others like myself would be lucky if 3 out of the 15 disks in the spindle were good.

You take those numbers vs the 100% and now 71 outta 71 "CMC" Philips disks...and it's really laughable. What's even more laughable is that had I known prior these Philips disks were CMC manufactured...I would of never taken them as a replacement to begin with.

As It is...I really did make out..because I replaced 3 Verbatim spindles...2 of which were all used and bad.....15 disks per spindle...two of which were "free" due to the buy 1 get 1 free deal at Office Depot...and I got the manager to give me 3 Philips spindles @2.4x with 25 in each spindle. So, basically, I got 75 disks in return for 45 disks..as well as the fact that the Philips weren't buy 1 get 1 free.

When I opened them up I IMMEDIATELY checked them in DVDINFO and saw they were CMC manufactured and just laughed....figuring the worst, of course. But to my amazement...I can't get A SINGLE DISK to burn poorly.....or have any type of issues....I think just for shits and giggles...I'll burn the last one with 4.39 GB's of Data just to see what happens....hummm..that's a tough one though..cuz then I probably won't be able to say i'm 75 outta 75 /100% on CMC manufactured disks...which really would be astounding...oh well...we'll see.

I will say one thing....I strongly feel that these "PHILIPS" CMC manufactured disks have a much higher level of QC then do any of the Verbatim CMC disks. I think the "plant" though is a good point..because I also had my fair share of problems with these "coveted" MCC Verbatim disks....but that's another issue all together....regardless...it's good to see CMC "CAN" put out solid disks....very good to see, especially considering they are tied for 2nd in Market share @ 9% for Write Once media.
