It sounds as if Toast 6 will let you take any video supported in Quicktime, drop it on Toast and it will encode to SVCD spec. If thats the case, that would mean the new Toast comes with an MPEG-2 encoder! How can they do that and have it retail for just $99?

Plus it seems to say SVCD menuing support is included. I've never done SVCD menus and I'd like to try it out!

I agree. did more reading about it! It looks AMAZING! cant wait for its release.

i wonder if it counts as one of the 5 downloads you get when you buy the .dmg version of thier Toast Titanium.

    probably not.

no it DOESNT burn SVCDs.. that is a total glitch.. it only works on players that dont have any standards in place (which is most shitty brands like apex) the new version will have ACTUAL SVCD support.. which will be nice for those who cant use cdrdao

Easily, Nero (PC Burning software) sells an SVCD plugin for the same purpose and thats $16 or a DVD/SVCD plugin for $24

Does not mean that the plugin is very fast or high quality mind.

After I posted I remembered how nasty the Nero MPEG-2 encoder is. It can't be worse than Apple's MPEG-2 encoder (lets hope)!

what in the hell are you talking about?!?!??! the apple mpeg-2 encoder is awesome on my machine (ALREADy outdated) it transcodes mpeg-2->mpeg-2 REALTIME. on a G5 2 Ghz (that my friend somehow got early.. bastard) it re-encodes a 6 minute video in TWENTY seconds.. name ONE mpeg-2 encoder on EITHER platform that is THAT fast.. okay granted it doesnt have many options to choose from and it could use some work.. but at that kind of speed i can deal with whatever quality (which i think once burned to DVD is just as good as any other mpeg-2 encoder i've used on either platform).. so i dont know what crack you are smoking...

Funny, i have one of the apex players. its not my only player, but it wont play the toast burned ones at all!

I know toast wont burn svcd's for playback
what i mean is it does "burn" in the fact that it puts the data on the disk, but only your comptuer can actually read the data.

i never tell anyone to use toast to do svcd.

with 6.0, that may be different

Clearly not the same crack you're smoking which enables you to accept zero options, especially no variable bitrate option, and inconsistent quality.
