We are using win xp pro service pack 3.
All the windows sounds have suddenly disappeared-from the welcome sound, the beeps, and the signoff sound.
We have googled and yahood but found nothing specific for this problem. How can we restore the sounds?

  2. Go to Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices then select the Sounds tab.
If that doesn't work then go to the Audio tab and adjust the volume.

Thanks for the quick reply. There are no sounds at all. The usual list of sounds is blank.

  4. You will have to create a new sound profile.

in the sounds tab/sound schemes, if you click the down arrow next to "no sounds" is windows default listed? if so select it.

aedipuss: I tried that. There are no sounds indicated. Is there any way to copy from another computer that does have all the default sounds?

  8. I had the same problem on a vista laptop after SP1. I had to go to device manager uninstall the audio device and then restart and let windows reinstall the audio device. after that the audio worked again.

ladyb1998: When you say to uninstall the audio device do you mean the sound card itself? Souns from other programs like games play just fine. Only the windows sounds are missing.
