  1. Hauppauge Win/TV USB-FM Radio

I recently bought a "Hauppauge Win/TV USB-FM Radio" video capture device & for a week now i've been struggling to capture without any dropped frames using a composite input (VHS). I've updated my drivers using the latest Hauppauge USB drivers v2.62 and installed the latest version of WinTV v4.0 & even tried VirtualDub v1.5.1, VirtualVCD, VirtualDubVCR+Sync all of them drop frames.

I've setup virtual dub to 16bit mono audio, no compression, 25fps, 320x240 resolution, yuy2 format ...yet still I drop frames, also it doesn't allow me to set the resolution above 320x240 ideally i'd like to capture at 352x288 so I can transfer the capture to vcd (PAL).

I'm using Windows 2000 SP4, DirectX9a, with a 450mhz processor and 256meg ram is my system config the problem or should I return the card and get a different one? ..and if so which one would do the job.

Ideally, I want to be able to capture from VHS and eventually transfer to VCD, HDD space isn't a problem but I want to maintain a decent quality image when finally transferring to vcd.

    Thanks...

    Cbh.

  2. USB devices get a bad (fairly deservedly I guess) rap most of the time. I have the WINTV FM PCI and I fell it has done a great job. cost = $60 ebay....

  3. What level of quality have you set to capture in the wintv perferences?
I would be very surprised if you could capture above the MPEG 2 @ 2.00 MHZ.

Try MPEG1 selection and see if you drop frames.

Is this computer a Laptop or desktop?

    Are any other processes running?

One thing you may try is seting the task priority to 'HIGH'.

I have the WINTV PVR USB and have good results.

    >Try MPEG1 selection and see if you drop frames.

The capture device doesn't support hardware encoding it's not the PVR model, so the only settings are the frame size (320x240) and the frames per second (25fps).

    >Is this computer a Laptop or desktop?

    Desktop PC using USB 1.

    >Are any other processes running?

I've tried it with virtually every service stopped leaving the absolutely bare min. windows services running under win2k.

    > One thing you may try is seting the task priority to 'HIGH'.

What i'm worried about taking it back & getting a PCI version and having the same problems...

    Thanks,

What is the max. frame size you've managed to capture using your PCI card, have you managed to get past 320x240 ?

    Thanks,
